Man Has Penis Cut Off With Chisel On Glasgow Street

BRYAN Hanlon, of Glasgow, had his penis cut off by a chisel, which is then believed to have been forced up his anus.

Hanlon, 26, was driving in an Audi S4 estate on Maryhill Road in Glasgow at 11.30pm on Sunday August 29, 2010. A silver BMW 5 Series and a dark-coloured 4×4 force him off the road.

He is then beaten and maimed by a gang of men.

Says Chief Inspector Graham Clarke:

“We don’t think this was a random act. It was targeted and there was a reason for it. We need to piece together what happened and get these people locked up. As the days go on, we will look at if this is connected to something else.”

Not too long ago, Hanlon’s twin brother James was also attacked. His car was forced from the road. The gang drilled a hole in his head.

That attack was carried out at 7:50pm – when it was still light.

Either way, what happened to his penis? It doesn't say whether he was driven to a hospital where they tried or did reattach it. From the savage nature of the crime, I must assume that the penis was either taken by the attackers or left in such a horrid condition, that it was either not found or not viable to reattach. Imagine how this must have went down:

1- Man attacked and severely beaten. Pants violently pulled down or removed.

2- Legs are held apart by attackers while someone positions the chisel into place.

3- Chisel is pressed against the penis which may or may not have been erect.

4- Holding the penis against a solid object, the chisel is pounded against the soft flesh and blood spurts and flies over the attackers. (Possibly giving the cops to press charges if they can find the clothes with the blood on it). If the penis was not erect, I think it got erect after the first hit due to pain. I might be wrong about this, what do you think?

5- Penis finally comes free after a few hits, that's if the chisel was sharp. Man is delirious, penis is either tossed, stuffed in a pocket, or stuffed up the man's anus. (Not sure about this).

6- Attackers flee and stump wound continues to spurt blood until paramedics arrive and apply direct pressure.

7- Penile stump is sewn shut and a perineal urethrostomy is performed by surgeons to allow for urination. Catheter inserted to allow for healing.

8- Penisless man is hospitalized and waited upon by young nurses. Traumatized man is kept and watched over due to concerns about suicide. Without his penis he wants to die.

9- After several days, catheter removed and mans attempts first pee sitting down without external penis. Nurses ask if he's been able to urinate and how it feels down there. Imagine?

Well, that's the way I see it. You can certainly add to the scenario as you see fit. Add #10 or insert additions between numbers. There is reason to believe that the man might have an inch or two of his penis left, depending on who carried out the penectomy and where the chisel was placed. This was not a surgical precise removal. However, he was beaten up pretty bad, so maybe he was semi-conscious when they cut his penis off, and therefore the attackers took all of his penis. I also think that his scrotum and testicles may have also been injured to some degree. Maybe he was kicked in the groin or punched in the groin, but the savagery of the attack tells me that the testicles would not have been left uninjured.

Fractures and head injuries aside, his greatest pain will come when he finally realizes that his penis has been cut off. At 26, he might wish that he was dead or had been left to die. For those who still cherish their penises, having it cut off is thought to be the absolute worse thing that could happen to them. I think that some criminals understand this, maybe that's why they didn't kill him instantly. Of course, we know they got interrupted and maybe that's what saved him or did it? What I want to know is how you deal with this type of trauma. Can you imagine the dialogue between the doctor and this man? (One of the articles I read said the man went through emergency surgery to reattach his "johnson." So maybe they found it, but it's at least mangled.)

I think they will keep hi sedated for quite a while, and no doubt they will get someone from the psychiatric dept to see him as well.I think they might break the news to him a bit better than that.There are only certain people getting to see him,and the hospital has a list of people who are to be given any sort of information about him.

At first I felt sorry for the victims in this matter (Bryan Hanlon and his brother who was attacked) and I felt real hatred for the gang that did this to them. I still feel that it was wrong, but... I have to ask myself just WHAT INSPIRED THESE GOONS TO DO SUCH THINGS?

I am sure, quite sure that the police are NOT releasing all the pertinent facts, I am sure that they NEVER will release all the pertinent facts. But there was a case recently that did have some other pertinent facts released, it was two years ago in Uganda, a woman named Angela something or other, hacked off a man's penis with a machete, but it was because she found the man trying to rape her ten year old daughter.

I am AGAINST such acts of violence, but I understand, that for the average person, especially a poor person, there is NO justice available through the courts, and so some of these "average joes" might be compelled to take justice into their own hands.

That is what I think may have happened here. Either Bryan or his brother, or possibly both of them may have committed some transgression against some other people. It might be something as stupid and insignificant as a political choice, a heated argument or something, but then again it might be that the victims (either one or both) have been doing something terrible, really terrible, use your own imagination.

For sure, even if the police were aware of the terrible things the victim(s) may have done to bring this on to themselves, they will NEVER release that information, NOT EVER. So all I can do is guess about it, but really, you have to ask yourself, just what could EVER motivate you to amputate another man's penis with a chisel?

both of the brothers were what in the uk is called gang activitys, and were known to be associated with another so called gangster who was shot to death in jan of this year.

This man an his brother were not just small time players but were big time hoods, this dose not mean that what was done to them was deserved, and it dose beg the question what kind of person would do this to another.

This may be more common than we think, I mean gangsters removing a man's penis. There was a segment in the "Godfather" where they cut off a man's penis and he asked his friend to kill him after it was removed and his friend did.
