I'm not sure if this is where to post this but I've finally made the discission to join the family? as it were. I've sheduled my Bi Lateral Orchiectomy for next Friday July 2nd. The proceedure is already paid for and if I were to change my mind between now and then, I'd Loose grand the total cost is $2650.00 so I don't think there's going to be an Issue with that.
For those of you that have had the proccedure done, what were the after affects did any of you feel depressed? I know this is something that I've wanted to have done for quite some time. Not only do I feel that I'm emotionally prepared for this I'm physically prepared as well or at least as well as one can be prepared for this type of proceedure once they're gone, they're gone there are no "Do overs".
It would be impractical for me to say that I don't have jitters about this, to say so would be an outright lie. I will be on a HRT regieme since I'm Transgendered so I'll be taking some form of Estrogen, Premerine, Estrodiol what ever so I'm not overly concerned About mood swings or private summers. However, with that being said I have no idea what to expect after the sergury. So any insights you may have could possibly help ease my apprehentions Yes I want them gone of that there is no doubt but I am loosing a part of who I am and in essence that's what concerns me.
Your support in this would be greatly appreciated. SC

Welcome to the Archive.
No one is fully aware of the effects one may have after castration. Even being on drugs can only give you a good idea but not the final feelings. In time you will find out how it is for you.
Good luck

Re: I'm no longer curious
Welcome aboard and I wish you well on your upcoming surgery. The side effects vary with each person so trying to say what you will experience is not possible except to say there are some things to watch. Depression is the big one but also make sure you get a bone scan every couple of years.

Re: I'm no longer curious
Forgive mylack of education on this subject but what is the purpose of having a bone scan? does the lack of testosterone have anything to do with calcium intake or retention?

With out testosterone you are subject to bone loss, Osteoporosis, it is common in women over 50 and eunuchs.
So, make sure you talk to your doctor about this and get a bone scan as you can to be used as a bench mark then again every two years. Your doctor may not even think about this until you bring it up then he will say something like that's a good idea. You may also experience loss of energy as well as hair loss, body hair is what I am talking about. And of course hot flashes, they can last for a couple months to several years, I had a mild one last week after 8 years. You might also experience a little weight gain, I have only put on about 75lbs, I was up to 100 but I have been watching my diet of late.

Re: I'm no longer curious
Thank you for the input I will discuss the bone scan with my P.C.P. However, I thought that taking estrogen would eliminate private summers (Hot Flashes) am I wrong in that assumption. Also I completely understand that everyone that has been castrated has gone through different symptoms or after affects I was hoping to get enough information to extrapolate what possible side affects I can expect. I also understand the difficulty in discerning the information.

Re: I'm no longer curious
I am no expert (But I do read a lot about hormone replacement - Mrs T) but... being on a female "mix" of hormones should protect you from the main things cautioned about post orchiectomy. Bone loss for example happens to women in Menopause because their ovaries stop producing Estrogen (And some Testosterone) the mood issues? Well expect to have some new wiring so you may well have moods (Female like) but the crushing depression of having no significant hormones probably won't be an issue. Weight gain in general will be "different" on a female mix. You will find weight loss to probably be more difficult. Your fat will distribute to different places (Breast and hips) Their will be a lot of other changes. You will probably loose your male Muscle tone and building muscle will be more difficult. Sweat will no longer be the same smell (Male - Musky stinky) your skin will be softer and so on. In short your going to have a lot of changes!
Google some Male to Female sites and you will learn tons more.

Re: I'm no longer curious
Once again I want to thank everyone for thier support. However, since I've been on a HRT regeime for quite sometime I have experienced all of the effects that have been noted. I've undergone lazer hair removal and have had mixed results. As far as fat distribution goes I'm quite open to having larger breast, since this would facilitate less surgery on my part and be far less expensive in the end. I will keep everyone abreast (no pun intended) duing my recuperation and will post any notable changes as they occur I'm just wondering if I should change my handle to something more appropriate I'm just not sure if I need to? Let me know what you think. As we used to say in the military 4 days and a wakeup and I'll be a much happier person.
