Headaches after castration

Post by casey526 (imported) »

Hi all,

Has anyone had issues with headaches after castration? I had an orchiectomy recently and thought the headaches might be from the antibiotics, but I've been off of them for about 4 days now and still dealing with headaches. :(

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Thanks much,

-Casey

Here's a list of possible side effects for antibiotics vs. headaches.

You may want to do a more extensive search.

Interesting. On the antibiotic I was prescribed, it says that headaches are a possible side effect. Maybe it just takes a while to get out of my system. I hope! :)

Hi Casey,

The headaches may not be directly related to any meds you're on. I discovered that the headaches I have suffered from on and off for the last few years are simply due to chronic tiredness. I tend to get headaches centered over one temple. It was diagnosed as migrane or neuralgia. In my case it was because I had developed an allergy to the cat. My nasal passages were swollen and I was suffering from sleep apnia - I just wasn't getting enough Rapid Eye Movement sleep.

I have not had an orchi, but I did try a period on cyproterone acetate (a chemical castration drug) last year and very quickly started getting hot flushes at night. I was already not sleeping well due to the allergy, so this made things even worse and I had to quit the cyproterone.

I suggest you first check out whether you are getting all the sleep you need.

But there are other causes of headaches, such as dehydration. If you don't get to the bottom of it soon, I think you should pester your doctor about it.

All the best

I was on Augmentin for a short period, and that stuff just tore me up.

I literally thought I was going to die of all the side effects.

When I first started having testosterone falloff some years ago, I had headaches, along with chronic exhaustion. I was not diabetic at that time, either, but some of the related signs are remarkably similar.

Fatigue, especially in the AM with getting going. Fitful sleep, and not being rested. Never mind the swings in temperature, which I still have to some degree, although I would not call any of the highs "hot flashes" anymore. Also, sudden swings into BAD temper.

If one of the side effects of your a.b. listed is headaches, it could be that.

There are a plethora of causes for headaches, though.

Aside from stress, my usual causes of random headache now are low blood sugars.

There is some debate on low T and diabetes (T-2) going hand in hand.

You might consider a glucose tolerance test, and see if the Dr. can get you a blood sugar meter. When a headache hits, test your blood. I start getting headaches in the low to mid 70's range of BS.

If you're not taking HRT either, and it's been a few weeks, the headaches COULD be a sign of your body adapting to lower T. levels.

Admittedly, if the headache problem just set in, lower T could be the cause. It took me 3-4 weeks to start feeling it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Riven. Yeah, I'm sleeping, just always tired. I'll see if I can catch up this weekend. I'm about to start back on HRT, so that might improve things. :)

Paolo, I'm completely tired in the AM. I was just talking with a friend how I'm always late for work lately and just CAN'T get out of bed. I mean, I'm hitting the snooze for an hour. And that's after I already got a full 8 hours of sleep. Maybe I can just sleep until I normally wake up this weekend and see how I feel. I'll also check my blood sugar level. But, the headaches didn't start until the day of my castration. Probably my body just getting used to low T. :)

Think about the very strong possibility of depression - severe. Classic.

It could be your testosterone tanking. I had low levels (Hypogonadism) and went on Hormone Replacement Therapy and the first positive change was to wake up and NOT be tired already. I also was under a pretty bad depression caused (we think) from hormone levels. Going on HRT kind of made that burn off for me. Thats probably not what you want to hear - sorry.... Anyway good luck & hope your feeling better soon.
