• Aol Crap

Why is it that when I log on to AOL I get disconnected like every two minutes? I have an Inspiron 1501 laptop system I got at Wal-Mart. SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE!!!! It is so aggravating to keep logging in repeatedly. Thank You for any assistance.

Just being shitty, but the two biggest reasons are

AOL

Wal Mart

That is typical AOL...!

I used to hear this complaint all the time. If you call them, AOL will tell you its a problem with your computer or your phone line. But, surprise surprise, if you use a different ISP you can stay online for as long as you want without getting dropped off. In other words, just use any other ISP besides AOL and the problem will go away.

If you live in a suburb or city, look into DSL. In most areas, you can get DSL from a third-party company (such as DSL Extreme) for $15 per month with no requirement to sign up for extra services (such as long-distance plans). DSL is typically 5x to 10x faster than dial up and you never get disconnected... If DSL isn't available, see if you can get Cable. Cable Internet is typically a little more expensive than DSL (from $20 to $50 per month), but it is available in many more areas than DSL, and is generally WAY faster than DSL (Cable is typically 15x to 50x faster than dial up, and like DSL you never get disconnected).

If you are stuck with Dial Up, I've heard that PeoplePC, Juno, and NetZero all offer Dial-Up for $10 per month. I don't think any of them have the disconnect/drop-off problems that AOL has.

AOL=poor customer service.

AOL=Slow internet speeds

AOL=Limited access ( for your own protection of course )

AOL=Crappy software that screws up your computer. So if you stick with them long enough... the problem will actually be with your computer.

I used to think their software only screwed up the Macs, but I have heard a few horror stories from PC users now and see they aren't actually discriminating against Mac users. They are messing with every one, BUT that's just my opinion.

Thanks...I am between Sarasota & Ft. Myers so I would think someone here would have DSL service.

I dislike AOL.

I had DSL with AOL and Earthlink. Had trouble with both. So I switched to cable and have had almost no trouble whatsoever for several years.

I have DSL with my phone company (Now ATT) and outside of having to use Yahell for my email I have never had any problems.

Juno might be cheap but if you decide to drop them they will keep billing you every month is a big complaint i have heard. I had the same problem with MSN and after three months of calling them and getting money back and dealing with bounced checks (that were payed back by bank) the bank and i finally got tired of it and had to cancel my debit card and start another. By the way every month MSN said were sorry but it was allready in the pipeline. I asked three months in a row they said yes...lairs.

It very well could be your computer or the phone lines. Try connecting someplace else a few blocks away. I once had a client that was dial up (in the old days) and she always got close to 50k persec then a big housing track went in down the street and she was lucky if she got 33.6 after words.

There use to be an old joke about guys sitting in room watching people download stuff. One guy would turn to the other and say, "oh look that one is almost finished downloading!" The reply came, "not anymore" click...disconnect

I was offered a six month free trial by AOL, guess what...I already got billed not even into the first month. So I called and was told that it was a free trial period in which if I was not satisfied with my service I would be refunded my payments after six months. I sure s hell do not do busines this way and neither should they. AOL has NOT heard the last from me YET!!! Shit, I will go back to my WEB TV if need be.
