I'm not sure when they reintroduced the battle buddy system but I do know it was defunct for several years before I went in. The conservative Reagan years would have likely been the time such a restructuring would have taken place.

I was in during Desert Storm. Early in basic training, we had some volunteers come in and give a class. For me it was surreal. The teachers were middle aged and older women teaching us young boys about how to protect ourselves during anal intercoarse. They talked about "back door" assualts and used airplane fuselages as phallic symbols. They discussed covering the airplane in rubber. During most discussions of sex people laugh. We were all very attentive and extremely quite for this class. Some of the boys were bold enough to ask questions. Several of us were stunned. I could not get over a women like my grandmother codoning homosexuality.

It was not long after the training session that I met the military's flourishing homosexual culture. It started with my drill sergeant demanding that I come down and clean his office. I vacumed the floor while he layed sprawled out on a couch, drunk, wiith his legs spread. He kept telling me to turn around and bend over to pick things up. It was a tiny cinder block office with no windows, and only one door. His couch was ajacent to the door. I was a skinny blond kid just off the streets. I about freaked out, I had never been so nervous in my life. I could deal with getting in a man's van or running from gang members, but this was the real world. This was not supposed to happen. Why was I not protected from such situations? After all I joined the army because the streets were to mean. Anyway, I thought he was going to bend me over the desk and rape me. While my back was turned, I kept listening for him to get of the couch. If he had demanded sex I would have given it. I was that young, and that scared. Oh well...I had prostituted myself to men before. DAMN SOUTHERNERS!!!! So much for don't ask don't tell!

Perhaps they should have an anal intercoare month on a global scale. In Egypt, not long ago, there where some real problems introducing anal intercoarse. I know while homosexuality has been a large part of the muslim culture, Islam is most strict on forbiding such behavior. Anyway, Amnesty International is working on that one. What a halarious bit of social comentary Tuala!
