I've been a nurse for eight years, I took care of my first eunuch ten minutes ago. When I went to change him his sack looked empty. He also had a bit to much subcutaneous tissue.

Anyway, I looked in his chart, sure enough, "bilateral orchiectomy '98." Poor guy was crying when I went in his room. He said he did not know why. I'll have to think about how to approach him since eunuchs are more emotional

...."Ahh....you lost your balls and that's why your crying.":o

That eunuch, whoever he is and whatever his story, is fortunate to have a sensitive, understanding nurse. Most would not make allowances, or even be aware that eunuchs do tend to be more emotional.

While that night he wanted to talk to his wife and kids. I just reminded him she would be coming in. She came in the next morning.

He has since been in good spirits. His wife told me he had been crying a bunch the second day also. She just said he gets down when in the hospital.

What's funny is that I can not help but relate to him like a child. I find a constant emotional exchange to be so important with this man. While he has not been overly dependent, my change in perception of him has worked to encourage more dependence and emotional expression. Normally I'm very masculine around my male patients and have found the relationship is much more funtional this way. Anyway, a nice change of pace.
