These are extracted from the "Hot Flashes" thread. I mixed them in to save time and I've received no answers thus far. I AM curious 'bout it all, though and hope someone can give "evidence" on these two topics.

Here they are:

"About the hot flashes; Is it rare that an adult male might experience few or no hot flashes post-castration? I ask because both Barry, our "pet" eunuch and one of his also-snipped friends seem to have escaped that particular after-effect.

Barry says he can't remember more than maybe two such events and his friend claims to have had none whatsoever. I do not yet know if the other guy immediately began HRT after castration, which might have averted hot flashes, I assume, but Barry did not begin his current low-dose and infrequent HRT intake until at least nine months had elapsed after he lost 'em.

Would age, perhaps, make a difference? Barry was in his late 20's when snipped and the other one was in his early 40's (He's sorta 50-ish now.)

Not to hijack this thread, but there's another question in my fertile mind; Is it an absolute that a eunuch's peepee will atrophy post-castration? I know Barry's did, but not all that much, and it was a rather small one to begin with.

The other guy I mentioned has a truly large one. I've seen (never touched!) it (kinda want to, in the interest of research, of course,) and although I've never seen it fully erect it hangs wayyyyy down in comparison to Barry's 'lil morsel and usually seems, well, plump, though not hard. I did observe it laid upon a ruler that was placed on a table and I seem to recall a measurement of maybe 7". He claimed that was it's usual state length-wise, with or without sexual stimulation, but I can attest, again via seeing him and Barry engaged in fun 'n games, that it does get a little thicker and the glans (Errrr, may I just call that a "head"? "Glans" sounds like some sort of name for someone from the Baltic States.) fattens a bit at such times. However, it still pretty much dangles or just lolls around, depending on position. One of these days or nights I might get a bit adventurous and see if a little of Yoli's Special CPR might have a more marked effect...blush...not likely, though."

Any answers, experiences, links to same?

I have had hot flashes since being castrated in July. They are infrequent but make up for it in discomfort (intense sweating, feeling as if I'm in a hot room). I don't have them as intensely when I'm taking Testosterone. Also my penis is losing some size even with occasional low doses of Testosterone, I have reason to believe that this is the normal course of events. --FLO--

In my case, I am 63, and I have been chemically castrated for almost five years in order to control inappropriate behavior due to an excessive libido. I believe that my castration is effective because 1) I no longer have those desires to engage in that behavior, 2) I no longer have morning erections, 3) my PSA is unmeasurable, and 4) if I do masturbate and ejaculate, the emission is only a small amount of clear fluid (indicating my prostate is probably completely atrophied from the lack of testosterone).

I have never experience hot flashes. However, I sometime awake in the night shivering. Is that a metabolism problem comparable to hot flashes? Or maybe I am unknowingly experiencing nocturnal hot flashes, kicking off the covers, then freezing when the hot flash ends. I don't know.

I do know that every person produces testosterone in the adrenal glands. In women it is necessary for sexual desire and a feeling of well being. In men it is normally overwhelmed by that from the "ballsies", but in a castrated ex-male it is the only source. Some men have more adrenal testosterone than others. I read a medical journal about a study where 16 castrated men were fitted with devices to measure arousal (you can figure out how) and shown an erotic film. Four became aroused; twelve didn't. It was found that the level of residual testosterone was about twice as high on average in those who became aroused as it was in those who didn't.

So, maybe those eunuchs who don't experience hot flashes, who can still masturbate, and haven't experience shrinkage of their "peepees" (I haven't), just have a higher level of non-testicular testosterone.

I used to have hot flashes so bad that when I was managing support services at a hospital I would find excuses to go into the walk-in freezer to check inventory. I remember one time driving in winter with the heat on and one of my first hot flashes hit and I turned off the heat and rolled down the window. I was hanging my head out the window and taking my coat off at the same time. Of course when it was over I was freezing. Ten years down the road no more hot flashes.

I think I have answered your question before but here we go again. Yes I suffer from penile shrinkage or what I refer to as my permanent cold shower state.

So, Tugon, the pertintent question here is, are you still able to get erections and ejaculate?

I am able to have erections and dry orgsms. The techniques needed to bring myself to orgasm are different now. They feel very good but I do not need one as often as before castration. Oddly if I find myself being short tempered I know it is time to give myself one. When my boyfriend caused me to have an orgasm he was so proud of himself. It was at that time he realized what worked for him as an intact male did not work for me. It was a good lesson for him to learn.

When I first when on "Androcur" I had hot flashes regularly for about a month and then it went away. Since the snip, snip in March, I again have had a few hot flashes. No recorded sequence to them. No specfic time or regularity.

i get COLD flashes, where it feels like i stepped nude into a snow storm.

Im on HRT

its usually an indicator something is out of wack, but i still have to sleep on a heating pad to keep it even.

After the snipping I never experienced any major hot flashes at all whereas before I would get them inexplicably out of the blue maybe once a year or two or so since my twenties at least. I am fifty in June (look twenty). There was no official medical explanation for them but for a long time I had been given a hint by a Pueblo nurse that since what I had been given was a defective product and normally wasn't putting out hardly any testosterone but that however every so often they would "spike" somehow leaving me after the spike was over with another one of my hot flashes. (One came right in the middle of a conversation in front of everybody.) My several encounters with steroids also did this to me. But through it all I can still sing soprano and that's what really counts. Right?

I didn't have anything major in the way of hot flashes *until* I went on HRT. It was weird, once I started HRT the first week after at around 7 each evening, I'd feel like I was sitting in a volcano. I've been on HRT since, and after that first week things leveled off.

I get warm once in a while, but nothing major or intolerable. I once put a ruler to my penis and it is still the same size now as it was prior to the removal of my testicles.
