Testicular Pain

Hey all,

I am pretty new to this board, but I wanted to start out by saying how wonderfully balanced and honest people's opinions are. No propaganda or agenda here, very nice! So now that I've sobered a bit over the idea of complete castration, I am thinking about the removal of just my right nut due to chronic pain.

I'd really rather just have the thing off then go through 6 months of trial and error; the pain affects my quality of life and my work so it scares me. And from what I've read, an inguinal orchiectomy is best for pain. I guess because the cord is removed too.

Anyway, I'm not really sure what to do. My first thought is to contact Dr. Kimmel and consult with him. I'm not sure if he'd do it for pain, you know, he may refer me back to my Urologist (Mr. let's-try-never-ending-antibiotics-courses). This guy won't even prescribe anti-inflammatories.

To throw another wrench into this I have OCD which would cast doubt on any request I make. I'm afraid to bring this up with the mainstream medical community for fear of being committed.

Any comments are appreciated.

Marco

your not the only one dealing with the chronic pain, mrt, me, and others here, been through it, so far , I only have one side out, you should be able to find a urologist, start going to him, and get him understanding the pain, when you say the same thing, over a period of time, they start listening, took me close to a yr to convince the doc to get mine out, and mine got covered under insurance, others have had more complications with the docs, guess I was lucky, Chronic Orchialagia is what they call it,

Im sure the others will chime in on this thread,

Mr. T is the one to talk to on this.

My probnlem was chronic testicular pain. The left on from the time I was 19> The right one joined in the "fun" when I was about 55. I too< went through a urologiost that only believed it was due to prostatitis. It wasn't. The second one did the testing for 7 months, finishing with a shot of novacaine in the right nut nerves. It only made things woirse and did not kill the pain in it. That convinced the Dr. that I knoe what needed to be done. So, he agreed but did it in two sessions instead of together. He removed them through the inguinal canal. I had no problems with the operations. I only took the high powered pain pills once. I got better paincontrol form regular ibuporphen (the generaic brand) and then only for about three days. Good luck. As was said, keep emphasizing the pain aspect.

Thanks! I ahh... think? Geeze I'm Mr Pain in the nuts?!? Oh well better that then the ass...

I got a PM on this and replied but for others that pick up the thread talk to your GP, phone the local university hospitals with Urology programs and phone the "Triage Nurse" and spell out your problem in detail and ask if any Urologists know about Orchialgia and say that you pondering an Orchiectomy and ask "Does anyone on staff have experience"??

This saves a lot of wasted time and visits to Doctors who have the idea that Orchiectomy should NEVER be done for any reason except Cancer.

Also don't seek this out first. DO give the other options a chance. Who knows maybe drug or injection therapy will work or? Better to try those now because after surgery will be toooooo late.

Good luck!

I had a bike accident 10 years or so ago, I had two ops to get relief from the pain I have daily in my testicles. Now I still have pain, although being castrated was something I thought of a lot, it seems more now a reality in short to get rid of the pain. I wear a jock-strap to support my balls, and the alternative of taking pain pills is not working. I can't even get a MD in Utah to look at the problem, they don't even perform vasectomy's here, so I am having to see about finding a Doctor to perform the surg to get rid of the testicles will rid of the daily pain. I have national coverage of Blue Cross/Blue Shield Health Insurance. Perhaps going back to California I will find me someone to help the situation out. stevesd//

Yes, contact Mr. T. He endured every side-show in the medical and insurance circus, but he got the job done and he's sporting a lovely set of superballs today. I had chronic pain for years and that's what brought me to Eunuch.org. A long line of urologists could not find the source of the problem and things got worse and worse. About 3 months ago I busted out into a full-blown urinary tract infection. My family physician put me on sulfa (SMZ/TMP DS TAB 800/160) for 30 days and low-and-behold my testicular pain started improving. I'm coming up on 60 days of sulfa now and my pain is completely gone. I had a deep testicular infection for years (that eventually moved into my prostate) and the urologists just thought I was a mental case.

Anyway, if you really want to be castrated, infection or not, you should spend a lot of time on this site and make sure you know what you are getting yourself in for - lifelong hormone replacement or suffer the consequences. Besides Mr. T, Paolo can probably recommend some good threads - are Andrew's posts on the effects of castration still online, Paolo?

Yes, its true. I had some really wild conversations. And how fun it is being sent to a "shrink" for pain. If your arm gets infected I wonder how often it is that they send you for a mental health screening? <SIGH> Well at least the shrink I saw turned out to be a plus. He said I was so sane I made him sick. Yes a big surprise to me (and MRS T) as well...

I think my best advise is to learn what you can and try the alternatives to orchiectomy but if they don't work DO NOT give up. There are mainstream doctors who will help. They don't want to do Orchiectomy on mental patients which is "ok" but once you get past that don't loose hope. I came close a few times and started wondering if I was a nut job. Now, I can say I made the right choice and I'm pain free. HRT and the rest is an additional burdon but WELL worth it once you get your dose down right.

And DocT if you get that infection back again (and again) I asked the Doc to save an extra pair of superballs for you ;-)

Marco Polo,

You will get lots of help and support here. What is eveident from my experience of talking to doctors in the UK is that there is a fog around testicular pain, if the pain is not Cancer or prostate related hey seem to think there is nothing to worry about.

To get a dianosis for anything else is really quite difficult. It will be very helpful to many of uas to see how you get on. Good luck.
