Gee: It looks like you stumped them all with that one.

I'm really interested to hear that. I always presumed that, without the glans, a penis would lack the nerve endings necessary for proper stimulation, making orgasm difficult or even impossible to achieve.
Do tell us more.

I think that lots of guys can orgasm from stimulating the shaft of the penis. I don't know if it's a majority or anything, but there's definitely a lot that can.
Personally, my glans is too sensitive to stimulate directly; for anything other than intercourse, I like the attention to be paid to the shaft, not the glans.

I know what you mean about the glans being too sensitive. But doesn't rubbing the penis shaft indirectly stimulate the glans by pulling the skin and pumping the blood vessels?
As far as I know, most women also find that direct clitoral stimulation is too intense, as they often seem to masturbate by moving the skin over the shaft of the clit. But I'm not sure that they can achieve orgasm so easily without clitoral glans. There's no research on male glansectomy (as far as I know) but there is research on clitoridectomy. (Female Genital Mutilation in North Africa, etc.) Many subjects only have the clitoral hood and/or glans excised. However, as most of the subjects were 'snipped' when very young it is not easy to deduce quite how much sensation is lost. Maybe we should organise a glansectomy study. Now where would we find a group of male and female volunteers?

Re: Glansectomys are so much better than being intact
Some of the people on BMEZine who have gotten glansectomies have later written articles or done interviews in which they say that they can still have orgasms. In fact, even that one dude who gave himself a penectomy while the interviewer was watching and taking pictures was there a year later saying that he can have orgasms just by rubbing the lump left behind.
There aren't any articles by people saying that they can't have orgasms since their glansectomy ... but then again, how many people would bother to report that? It's not exactly a point of pride, and there aren't a whole lot of people going out and doing it in the first place.

Also, nerves may regrow and adapt, forming new sensors to replace those lost in the glans. (Or, more acurately: Neurons, what we often call "nerve cells", are only transporting the signals. But the cells that are really responsible for genereting the "input" are adapted skin cells. Severed neuronal pathway can sometimes heal. If they loose contact with the sensories they try to regain it or, failing that, to induce new ones.)
So it you remove the glans, there's a likelihood that SOME of the feeling will be replaced by new ones.

The only person that I know well enough to ask about it could have an orgasm quite readily by rubbing the stump after his penis was amputated. So, I imagine that an orgasm without a glans is a good possibility. --FLO--
