Update on Experience

When I am on my antidepressant medication, I still think about sex but I cannot really achieve orgasms or, if I do, they are not satisfying (all autoerotic). Without the medication, I can. I walk around trapped with desire that I cannot resolve.

I miss making love. I really miss it.

ADs, particularly SSRIs, are awful for sexual activity, and in a few cases even sexual desire. I had the same problem - still wanted sex but could not reach orgasm.

So do I. I'm used to not having erections, but being unable to achieve orgasm is extremely frustrating. I attempt to masturbate incessantly (i.e., as often as opportunity and privacy permit, as I always have) but usually nothing happens.

On the other hand, the antidepressant which I take for anxiety is very effective for that purpose. I have had to be willing to trade freedom from constant groundless anxiety for impotence. If I were willing to return to an uptight existence, doubtless, I could experience orgasms again.

Oh well, attempting to masturbate still feels good even if nothing happens.

You might want to ask your GP about switching you to Wellbutren XL instead of what your on. That helps with depression but has few to no sexual side effects. Good luck!!!

For a while I was on a mix of Welbutrin and Paxil (one of the SSRI class), and the Welbutrin seemed, for whatever reason, to cancel out the strange sexual side effects of the SSRI. Welbutrin by itself just made me feel "speedy".

It was not a good medication for me--just did not work well. I don't miss orgasms as much as I miss intimacy.

Not surprizing, the side effect of Wellbutrin. As I understand the chemistry, Wellbutrin (bupropion) is constructed on a modified molecule of amphetimine. That is why truckers on Wellbutrin, if drug screened, have to protect themselves by divulging this, or they can turn up positive for illicit drugs. Most people find that Wellbutrin can produce the effect of horny toad" syndrome, or perhaps "billy goat" in mating season....

Whew! I had not idea on how Wellbutren keeps the sex drive going. I guess I'm glad my wife takes it! I've only been Anorgasmic once and it was the worst... Getting stuck on the edge of climax and not being able to push over was just a horror show for me.

I started back on Androcur, 2 days @ 50mg and then back down to 25mg.

It's done the trick in what, 7 days....Can still get erect but it takes a looong time.

I don't have anyone here with me to make love to so it's just as well, need to order more I guess LOL

No depression this time! (So far)..
