Chemical castration using Depo-Provera suspension

Post by madscientist (imported) »

Can anyone tell me about chemical castration using the NEW D-P suspension, NOT the old solution. What is the starting dose? How long must one continue? Is it permanent? Remember, the new D-P is good for 3 months when used for female contraception. The old solution was only good for 1. I assume it might work this way for chem castration. Anyone know for sure?

There are lots of chemical castration agents that now come in 3 month doses. Look up Zoladex, or Lupron Depot. I assume Depot Provera works similarly.

None of these are considered "permanent", although I suspect that some body changes (feminization) will occur that will not be reversible. There is not a lot of study on people stopping these drugs because they are used for people with terminal prostate cancer.

Depo-Provera works by suppressing gonadotropin, which is responsible for creating sex hormones. It, therefore, will not feminize men or masculinize women. I would just like to know if permanent castration can be achieved by using it in any way.

Well there are two "parts" to feminization. The first is losing your masculine traits. Without testosterone, you will lose many "male" things: strength, muscle mass and definition, bone density, libido, etc.

However, secondly you will also get feminizing effects because once your testosterone is suppressed to castrate levels, your ambient estrogen (yes even men have estrogen in their system) will "take over" and cause your body to react to it. Unopposed to testosterone, you will experience breast swelling and redistribution of body fat. Of course this won't be as much as if you actually took estrogen, but you will start getting feminized over time.

And no, no gonadotropin suppression LHRH-analog drug will be permanent. However, I am not sure how true that is because these drugs are usually used on terminal prostate cancer patients. There are probably very few cases of people taking these drugs for years then stopping in order to resume as a healthy "male".
