It was great when it all began. I was a regular Frankie fan, but it was over when he had a plan to start a working on a muscle man.
One day a friend of mine told me that I needed a mini vacation and should come to a movie with her. I did and was surprised that I had to show up at 9:00 P.M. for a midnight showing. Many in the line were dressed as the characters in the show, and I was taken to be introduced to Franknfurter, Magenta, Columbia, and Riff Raf. I was priveledged to be allowed to sit in the third row middle seat where some guy dressed as a Transylvanian with bright red lipstick on and dark glasses kissed me. I just knew it was going to be a night to remember. I was laughing deeply inside.
The movie started, I got squirted with water guns and toilet papered, but when I saw Franknfurter coming down that elevator with those godawful white and black sparkley platform shoes and fishnet tights, I flipped out. My friend loved seeing the damage she was doing to my poor mind.
That night when I went to bed I couldnt get the time warp song out of my head. I woke up with it the next morning and returned the same evening with another friend that had never seen it before.
Thereafter I went to see the show every Friday and Saturday night. I was such a release to go there and sing the whole show and laugh and scream. I loved it. I got a lifetime pass issued by Chicago's Biograph theatre, and all of the rolls of toilet paper I could collect. I stopped counting at 86 times viewing the show. I introduced my husband to be to the show and he liked it but he couldn't see going so often. Then I started to like guys in fishnet stockings and when I realized this, I got scared shitless and quit going. Now I own a tape of the show and no longer am turned on by guys in fishnets...my husband refused to wear them. I am sitting here with a big smile to remember those days fondly.
I never identified with any certain character, but I took great care to paint my nails fire engine red and to wear a slash of red lipstick. It was like getting into a uniform. The minute I put the lipstick on I was in the mood.
Thanks for bringing this up.

i'm a big fan of the movie, almost obsessively so at one point. never got to see it live but i have two copies on vhs. That movie helped me keep my sanity for a full year and then some. I was living at home, and all i was aloud to do was go to school and stay home, day after day. well that's when i got heavily into movies to help me keep my sanity. the Rocky Horror Picture Show was one i felt a special about so i'd put it in the vcr let it play and then auto rewind afterwards and hit play again, i must have watched it about 10 times a day or more for lack of anything else to entertain myself with. i learned all the songs by heart and all the call out lines i got off the net at school. my favorite was frank but i think i always made a better brad. He was the one who was always so reserved, polite and propper yet you could tell when he let go he had a blast with frank, and was sort of set free of his inhibitions in the end with everybody else.
I could play any part if i were aloud to go out to see it when they showed it at the mason jar every first and third Saturday. I would have loved going and dressing up. being a part of that special group of free spirits.
Also that movie helped me make a good friend at that time, but that is a different story. lol might share it later.

If you havn't seen it live at a theater, you havn't seen it, really. I was 17 when I got the "V" marked on my forhead. It was a theater in Beaumont, TX (can you say bible belt, baptistville) in 1987. I was drunk on Schlitz Malt Liquer (hey, the bull doesn't come through the wall for nothin'). That's when I became a regular "Frankie Fan". My best friend and I got the soundtracks and I still know every word from every song. Damn, I want to go see it again now!
For some reason, I can see an International MoM being held in a castle like that with everyone dressed as Unconventional Conventioners... LOL! Makes me want to don some fishnet stockings and a black wig with high heels (that would be a scary sight, I promise!)
