Man cuts off his penis ‘to stop him sinning’

31 August 2007

SALAMANCA – A man cut off his own penis and threw it in a toilet ‘so he would stop sinning’.

The 30-year-old was recovering in the Hospital Clinico Universitario in Salamanca in western Spain.

Doctors said his condition was ‘stable’ and he was not in danger of losing his life.

The man, from Salamanca, cut off his penis with a knife on Thursday morning.

The local newspaper La Gaceta reported when relatives called emergency services, he told ambulance workers he did it “so would not sin any more”.

A relative found the man, who has not been named, in the house where they lived in the city and raised the alarm.

He was bleeding heavily.

The newspaper said it was not known if the man’s penis could be sewn back.

There was also a suggestion he may be suffering from psychological problems.

This case fits well with the majority of the medical literature on self-castration. Most of what is in print supports the proposition that at least two-thirds of self-castrators are psychotic at the time of their attempt. (See, for example, Aboseif et al. 1993 and Romilly & Isaac 1996) This literature is based almost exclusively on emergency room admissions.

This person precipitously chopped off his penis without doing the necessary homework to understand the dangers involved. He focused on his penis, rather than on his testicles as the source of libido and “sin.” His only cited reason was religious fanaticism. The published pattern would also include that he be below average in intelligence, which the article doesn’t address. It would also have him likely drunk at the time he took action.

In contrast, the Eunuch Archive survey found that those from this group who responded were quite different from those who show up in the previous literature. The average time between deciding to be castrated and the actual castration is about twelve years, with intensive research done in the meantime. Action was not taken precipitously and a majority sought licensed medical practitioners. There are clearly stated (and, arguably, “rational”) reasons for a focus on the testicles (usually) or the penis (quite rarely). While libido reduction may be a common reason given, “sin” is rarely stated. In fact, very few mentioned religion as a motivating factor at all. The average intelligence (or, at least, education level) of the voluntary eunuchs and wannabes on the Eunuch Archive is significantly higher than the average of the population as a whole. (Brett et al. 2007 and Johnson et al. 2007)

While an article that will certainly go into my files, it has little to do with those who are members here.

i know that in the past there has been a few posts on this. i mean on the religious side of castration. i think about what it says about sin and cutting off your own body parts in the bible.

i thought about self castration allot throughout my youth and now not at all post surgery. maybe if more people where able to openly talk about there sin, or there want for change, people wouldnt mutilate there own bodes. if help where out there for people like me and most of you then is it possible that people wouldnt become "psychotic" and do these things to there body?

the thought of someone feeling so helpless as to cut off a part of there body, thats a very deeply hurting individual.

Thanks, Jesus!

I fit into that category since it has taken me over 30 years to do the deed, with the EA's information being the deciding factor.

As for "sin" that depends on one's viewpoint. I did somethings in the past that caused me to dislike my out of control libido. Some might call it sin, and some might call it a sex crime, but I call it a mistake in judgement. Castration for me is permanent atonement for the sin and also expiation for the crime.
