Boy fights for life after genitals sliced off
Police have arrested a man in connection with the brutal ritual attack in which an eight-year-old boys penis and testicles were severed.
The boy miraculously survived the attack which police believe was for muti purposes in Limpopo
The 23-year-old man, from Malamulele near Giyani, will appear in the Malamulele magistrates court today charged with attempted murder.
The incident happened on Saturday afternoon at Jilongo village.
Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba, the provincial police spokesman, said the victim had his penis and testicles cut off.
The attack took place in the bushes in the village.
Ramatseba said the 23-year-old man was arrested shortly after the incident. He was found in possession of the boys severed genitals.
When police asked him what he planned to do with the parts, the man allegedly told them he was going to sell them.
We are investigating the matter to find out to whom the body parts were to be sold, Ramatseba said.
The victim was yesterday fighting for his life in Malamulele Hospital, he said.
We condemn acts where people would cut off childrens body parts for the purposes of selling them.
The fact that the suspect was arrested while still in possession of the body parts will help crack the case speedily.
We are going to interrogate him as to who actually sent him to commit such a heinous crime.
We also call on communities to refrain from engaging in criminal activities, said Ramatseba.
Four years ago attackers hacked Sello Chokoe and cut off his genitals in what was believed to be a ritual attack.
Chokoes right hand, ear and pieces of skin were cut off. He was left for dead.
He was found by women who went to collect firewood in the mountains in GaKomape village in Moletjie.
Sello died 10 days after the attack. His body parts are still missing and police have failed to crack the case.
Two suspects who were arrested, walked free after police failed to provide sufficient evidence to link them to Chokoes attack.
