Unfair Labor Practices!!!

Yoli, Your Webfooted Friend is HERE!
I'm secretly plotting the snipping of two of my bosses, one a female. Why? Well, seems there's a serious storm heading for the Texas Coast. Now that is nothing particularly noteworthy except...
The two bosspersons each have nice houses that front the water. The two bosspersons have (God knows why) some valuable art and artifacts in their respective "getaways". One, the guy boss, has not one, but TWO boats at his place.
So, at 3AM(!!) this morning Yoli gets a phone call. It's da' boss (male) calling to tell me he needs help in evacuating his fancy stuff and his boats from the coast "just in case". At around 4AM, as your lovable little Yoli is stumbling into the shower, the female boss calls...same song, second verse, except there's no boat to move.
Soooo, in a few moments, I'm gonna be part of a convoy to the coast. Our merry little band of somewhat disgruntled employees will pack stuff, load boats onto trailers, secure what we cannot move, then convoy North on what are predicted to be clogged highways.
(I just thought of something...if a person is disgruntled, can he or she become all nice and gruntled once the crisis has passed? How does one go about gruntling a disgruntled person?)
Now, I AM a loyal little trooper in our firm. I am well-paid. Some might say excessively so. I am entrusted with some of the most delicate and confidential matters. But, how does this obligate me to risk self to assist someone who ought to have better sense than to stock a vulnerable coastal "cabin" with stuff that belongs in a museum?
To make matters worse, I have a hangover (I was s'posed to semi-work at home today.) Even more worse (worser?), once the storm is over, we get to go back down there, towing the same two boats, and clean up whatever damage may have been inflicted on the structures.
Oh, yeah, since I'm the "outdoorsy" girl in the mix, I get to drive an effing huge diesel "Duallie" with a 24 foot boat attached thereto. That should make heavy traffic all the more enjoyable. At least I'll have a copilot (God.)
Good day, and thanks for letting me vent.
(Pray for me!)
I'd rather have a yeast infection!

Hi Yoli,
I've often been disgruntled and find regruntling very challenging and frustrating. Sometimes the regruntling process is so frustrating that it backfires and leads to further disgruntling. Any who sorry to hear your being asked to the extra seven hundred miles.... and then back. Yikes! It's definitely not the kind of party any one wants to get invited to.
Seriously I'm guessing that you have a salary and your contract is sufficiently vague enough, that your bosses feel that are well within their rights to call upon your services at any time. I'm no lawyer so I wouldn't begin to give advice about the legality of what they are asking. However I do think you would be with in your rights to refuse to put your self at risk, but unless the risk is a significant one, they may see you as an uppity party pooper. Sounds like a tough call. We'll be here when you get back.

Good luck. Supposed to get 5"-10" of rain there. Next week, we may have a cat3 entering the gulf. I don't get to evacuate in my job because I'm one of the first persons on the scene of a storm. I'll have satellite hookups and will post pics and updates through myspace if anyone is interested. Have fun in the rain Yoli!!!

Yoli the Soggy here.
Well, I'm back from the great rescue mission. What a waste of time.
Tropical Storm Erin made a lot of noise and rain, but that was about it.
We left the coast, boats in tow and valuables in plastic bags and boxes, and came north. If I NEVER have to drive an enormous pickup, towing an enormous boat, again it will be too soon!
When we reached a small and ugly town called Kenedy (one N) the brainiac in charge decided to leave the boats there at a friend's ranch. Thank GOD! I was sick with fear at the thought of towing that beast through San Antonio. Little girls aren't intended for that kind of work!
We drove through blinding rain, winds to 50 miles per, and a wad of idiots on wheels. Never again!
Here's the punch line; The biggies are now worried about the direction and force of Hurricane Dean, and rightly so. That's why it's a good thing that, when one of them suggested leaving the boats behind 'cause Erin wasn't a real threat to them, I screeched "There's a hurricane coming and I am NOT coming back down here for the &%^$%! boats when that is bearing down and the highways are clogged!!!" Somehow, they knew I meant it.
So, as of last night, your loving Yoli is back in San Antonio, slightly soggy and still shaking from driving something that ought to have it's own Zip Code.
I got today (Lots of napping! Lots of ice cream. Some alcohol.) AND Monday off, so it's...PARTY TIME! Then it's back to being a senior legal assistant, appropriately dressed in DRY clothes!
Live! From San Antonio! It's Friday Niiiiight!
Love,
Yoli the Trucker Babe and part-time Love Goddess

I'm glad you made it ok, yoli. I caught it bad in Houston but I was not pulling a big ass boat (thank the gods!). It really looks like Dean will be hitting an area that will effect San Antonio. When Rita hit Southeast texas, it did considerable damage 130+ miles inland and it was a cat 2 (i think) when it hit. If it makes landfall as a cat 4 or 5 and headed for S.A., you should leave since S.A. is only 140 miles inland. Good luck Yoli!

Welcome back Yoli
Now you'll have a chance to dry out before the next hurricane, and you all ready let them know your not in the boat moving business, and have a limited supply of gruntles.

Yoli The Contented Complainer here!
Actually, I am probably one of the highest paid brats in my field, at least in this part of the country. I am awarded nice bonuses when we win a big case, as a reward for the hard work I contribute to the cause. Christmas/Chanukah bonuses are too generous. So it's not a matter of money.
It's simply that since I can transform from carefully groomed and expensively attired "office lady" to camouflaged huntress, then to properly dressed fisherperson and high-performance bassboat pilot , on to dance floor hottie, then to, well, you know, I am considered the girl for all seasons by the higher-ups. The "you know" part does NOT involve ANY of the folks I work with, except an occasional heavy petting session with one of the older (40s) ladies there...a real hottie herself. She's a close friend as well, but not part of the Official Kastration Koven.
Another reason I was involved in Operation Dumb Ass was my "get it done" attitude when assigned a task. They knew I'd set an example to others and kick butt (see: Temper tantrums, tears, etc,) to see the job was completed.
Oh, I admit I bitched and moaned a lot but I DID get it done!
Looking back on driving the BEAST and BOAT I now feel a bit of (only slightly) conceited pride. There were guys in the crew that flatly refused to drive it. One of the bosses had previously convoyed with me as I drove a Suburban and 21' bassboat from San Antonio to Lake Amistad, backed trailer, drove the boat off (and later, on) the trailer, and piloted the boat all over that inland sea they call a lake. I guess you could say I was the easy target.
Well, it's over now and we're all sweating what H'cane Dean might do. It could do serious damage in San Antonio and points north. It's a cinch to spawn tornados as well...EEEEEK! (Toto, I don't think we're in Nieman-Marcus anymore!)
I, Ash(leigh), and a few close friends, may flee to BigGuy's ranch (the one to the northwest) and hunker down in the old German Colonial stone ranch house. The southern spread would NOT be a safe place.
Will keep you informed.
Love to all, especially the Weather Goddess!
Now, to refill the Margarita and get my nekkid *hiney back into the pool!
Yoli, The Girl For All Seasons
*Did I forget to add "and adorable"?

Now I need to see a current photo, just to see how "adorable" this office dragon lady really is.
Dear "Slommi",
If I posted a pikki of me HERE, I'd likely be unemployed within a week. I'm sure you can understand that.
I have, however, been feverishly searching for a link I once had to some pictures taken at an "on the water" bash at Lake Travis TX a while back. I, Ash(leigh) and even Barry The Eunuch are in some of them. If I can EVER retrieve that link I'll post it and leave it to you to guess which we are.
Even if you guess incorrectly, you'll get an eyeful (several) of scantily clad Texas girls and guys. Our beloved Uncle Wolfie (MacWolf) was promised the same some time ago but I CANNOT FIND THAT $^%#! LINK!!! I KNOW I had it bookmarked! Where the &R%^! did it go? (I suspect Ash[leigh].)
Now the "unemployed" part might not be so bad if I was paid the same salary, plus bonuses, (with so much "work at home" and comp time,) as I earn now in some other endeavor. I do have fantasies about "officiating" and assisting at castrations so maybe there's an opening in that field. But I've checked the Help Wanted ads and so far...nothin' to do with nuttin'.
I will persevere, I promise. I want to enjoy the pics too!
Love to all,
Yoli
Just back from church! For shame!
