it says that androcur only acts as a key that fits into a lock where testosterone was suppposed to go, but does anyone know if it also actually reduces the testosterone levels???
please can also provide the source - where u got the information from.
thank you

I AM CONFUSED -
I want to know if testosterone levels return to castration levels after starting androcur?
please help me. because there are places on the internet where it says that
"androcur inhibits the effect of testosterone" that means it doesnt reduce testosterone.
BOBBIE any help?

Androcur (cyproterone acetate) is an anti-androgenic hormone preparation. It is believed to prevent the effect of endogenously (internally) produced and exogenously (externally) administered androgens at the target organs by means of competitive inhibition. The stimulating effect of male sex hormones on androgen-dependent structures and functions is weakened or counteracted by cyproterone acetate. Cyproterone acetate also exerts a progestational and anti-gonadotropic effect. (From the product information packet.)
This medicine blocks the effect of the male hormone testosterone in the body. This decreases the amount of testosterone produced in the body. At first, cyproterone often causes loss of strength and energy or tiredness. However, these effects tend to remit after about the third month of treatment.

Let me put it to you this way. When I was on androcur my Testosterone levels were very low. Many guys that are castrated had higher levels then I.
Androcur is given to guys to drop the testosterone when they have prostrate cancer.

after 8 days of 200 mg androcur ( 100 each am and pm )I was at this time tired and feeling weak and it turned out to be true. I get more tired in a "body pump class" have reduced weights I use and at the end for lunges I now use no weight and still run out of steam during the lunges. My core strength is lacking and its most noticeable in my low back. I am not doing stuff that even 3 to 5 days into androcur I was able to do. Was not feeling its effects on day 3, days 4 and 5 I pushed myself to use same weights, it was hard to do but I did it.On day 6 started lowering weight on lunges (the last working track ) after this it was stretching and cool down. On 7/1 had lowered weight in all body pump moves except warm up and I will next time have to change that weight also, it was too much. As this is written I have been off androcur 5 days (Stopped taking it on June 27th).
Not sure if these effects are from less testosterone or other chemical pathways of androcur.

Testosterone increases Red Blood Cell count in your blood. How exactly is not known. Probably through elevated Erithropoyetin levels or EPO. Thus your stamina will decrease as your T levels drop causing your RBC count to drop.
Perhaps taking EPO will help?
From an article:
------------------------------------------------
The exact process of erythropoiesis appears somewhat complex, as do most body functions when under examination. Red blood cells begin as immature and physically undetermined stem cells, which reside in the bone marrow waiting to be called upon by the body for various blood and lymph system uses. In the case of red blood cells, the renal hormone erythropoietin is the signal that tells the bone marrow to form these cells from stem cells. They will develop first into a series of immature precursor cells, and ultimately adult red blood cells. The normal stimulus for the production and release of erythropoietin is hypoxia, or a lower than ideal supply of oxygen to the body tissues. High red blood cell concentrations alternately serve as a feedback mechanism, lowering the release of erythropoietin so that RBC concentrations to not get over elevated. Androgens are known to primarily act at the level of erythropoietin, enhancing the release of this hormone from renal tissue. It is also suggested however that androgens may affect the stem cell directly, perhaps by enhancing cell responsiveness to erythropoietin.

My blood results (CBC) from Monday 7/28/08 show RBC is not a problem, in fact my anemia from 7/07 is gone. results from the newest ( first set of results ) is 4 weeks off 200 mg total per day x 8 days androcur. TRT not started my T level with out the effects of androcur go down to 130ng/dl.
Test results from 07/24/07 I was on TRT and I was slightly anemic, and I was eating better in 2007 also, go figure.
WBC (WBC) 7.0 k/cmm 4.3-10.0 N
RBC * RBC 4.93 M/CMM 4.50-6.00 N
HEMOGLOBIN HGB 14.9 g/dl 13.0-18.0 N

BASOPHILS BASOS 0.3 % 0.0-2.0 N
First # is my lab value 2nd is normal range and letter is if N = normal L = low H = high
My previous lab values included anemia and hypogonadism, can not post RBC at this time do not recall exact # although I think hemoglobin was 12.8.
I was anemic when on TRT, the lab values posted are post androcur and pre restart of TRT.
