Artist Adrian Parsons did a self-circumcision as performance art in Washington D.C., April 26. There is a video of it, as well as some stills, in various websites. I don't have a link, but if you search Adrian Parsons, or Adrian Parsons circumcision, you will find several links. Granted, this is "only" a circumcision, but at the young age of 24, who knows what he might take off several years down the road.

There have been castrations as performance art, one resulting in death if I remember right. I'm not able to produce references right now perhaps someone else would be kind enough to do so. --FLO--

I was unaware, Uncle Flo, of any actual castrations as perfromance art, but I'm sure there have been. If I remember right, it was widely thought that Rudolf Schwarzkogler (sp), one of the Viennese artists, did a mock castration that many people at the time thought was real. I believe he eventually commited suicide by jumping out of a window.

All I could get was the audio track. You could hear a few women and one man exchanging various shocked remarks with the sound of camera shutters tripping at the end. A pretty futile and stupid performance that cannot be repeated by the artist. If he wanted to shock a few folks, he certainly suceeded.

The video that I would like to see is the gynecological examination of a young woman that was done on live TV in Sweden a few years back. I think it was before the Internet had video clips as I cannot find it. The newspaper story at the time, said that the audience went completely silent when the doctor pointed his hand held camera directly at the girl's genitalia. Does anybody know of a link to this one?
