Kiwi stated in another thread that DP was beneficial for sleep apnea. I did a google search but could find very little info on it. Does anyone have any experiences with it or know how the DP treats sleep apnea?

An interesting notion. B is always wondering if I am gonna just die considering how often I apparently stop breathing while asleep, never mind the snoring racket (I have awakened myself at times...). Of course, if this were borne out, would it be the result of a peripheral chemical action or a lack of testosterone or some other source? What of those with no or very little T? OTOH, I am scheduled for a sleep study - we'll see if I can sleep, let alone in a strange bed, without a warm body next door...

Maybe a dumpster with some empty bottles of bourbon and some used condoms will help you fall asleep?

Why empty or used unless I have created that condition for them? Then I could certainly deal with a good, roomy dumpster.... Course, booze fucks up the sleep patterns of its afficionados...

Some doctors prescribe Provera to treat endometriosis menopausal symptoms premenstrual tension sexual aggressive behavior in men and sleep apnea (temporary failure to breath while sleeping). Provera is a respitory stimulant, where testosterone reduces nocternal respitory drive. this is why very few women suffer from apnea until menopause.

Male hormones are largely responsible for the much greater prevalence (as well as severity) of sleep apnea and snoring in men. Women with elevated levels of this hormone (particularly in the case of PCOS and ingestion) also face a greater problem with respiratory sleep disorders. The main reason for this is believed to be partly due to the fact that testosterone makes the mucous tissue in the throat to become thicker, as well as it's (yet poorly understood) effects on the central nervous system. Other factors, such as genetic predisposition, respiratory infections and smoking, may worsen the problem.

While I do not doubt that castration + no HRT effectively prevents manifestation of the hormone-related sleep apnea before it gets a chance to develop (my case - all of the other males in my family has a problem with apnea and loud snoring, I have neither; even the mild snoring that I started to develop at about the age of 15 entirely disappeared), I have no idea what results to expect for someone who already has it. The few studies that I have seen suggest that a reduction of t is helpful in both sexes and ages (where other causes for the disorder could be ruled out), so I would tend to assume that Depo Provera would produce similar results. However, I have never seen a study wich exclusively looked at Depo for this purpose.

I have had a sleep study and I describe what I look like as 'R2D2 after an explosion.' I can say that they certainly are effective in figuring out the problems, so good luck. I sleep with CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) and it makes a huge difference for me. I had a second sleep study a few months ago and actually found that the mask was causing part of my problem. We changed it out to a different model and I sleep better than I ever have before. I do not want to be without my machine now because it is so much better.

I am supposed to go in for surgery to remove some extra tissue in my nose that should help my situation. When I go in and talk to the surgeon next month, I will try to remember to ask him if T really makes a difference. I have un unusually small airway, so perhaps that is a result of the swelling issue mentioned above. I have just started another attempt at Depo-Provera. Might not be the cure-all, but it would be nice to know.

I think the bottles and condoms should both be full. The bottles should be full in the beginning and the condoms in the end. LOL
