Lumps under my nipples

Hi,

I've been taking spironolactone(200mg/day) for quite some time (about 2 months), with very little effect. I decided to start taking oestrogen (4mg estrofem/day for 2 weeks) until my sex drive stopped then come off it and hopefully it'll give spironolatone the boost it needs.

Recently I've got some small lumps under my nipples and it looks like the areola is starting to develop. If i stop taking spiro and oestrogen will these go away on their own?

Also what is the likelihood that i'm now sterile?

I don't know for sure about sterility, but I would doubt it after only two months. The lumps under your nipples are glandular breast tissue, that and the areolar development are probably the result of the estrogen you've taken. there is a good chance that neither will just go away any more than a woman's breast development will just go away. The breast tissue should not continue to develop any more after the estrogen is discontinued. --FLO--

NHS Direct website says:

"Gynaecomastia is a common condition in teenage boys where firm, tender breast tissue grows under the nipples. It is usually caused by an imbalance of hormones during puberty and usually disappears without treatment within a couple of years."

Is female breast growth any different to Gynecomastia?

Thanks a lot!

Edit: oh and also, when teenagers get gynecomastia, do their areola's develop too?

There is pseudogynecomastia (usually the result of overweight) and gynecomastia (hormonal breast development), the variety common to pubescent boys is usually gone as the hormone ballance equals out. The type that is induced in adults by artificial means or by medical problems is more persistant. I am part of a very small percentage that develops gynecomastia from Testosterone replacement therapy. I just relax and enjoy it. --FLO--

Ok then. Thanks for the information. I stopped taking oestrogen and spironolatone about a week ago because i was getting concered about it. I'd rather have the testostorone than losing my chance to ever have children, and grow boobs :p

No, the actual lumps will go away, but the accumulated breast tissue may stay, or once your hormones swing manly then the fat redistribution will probably make the growth less noticeable.

Could anyone tell me about the areola? Will they go back to looking as it did before?

Unlikely, very much so. 2months and you say the Spiro wasn't even working well? I think you're safe.

i myself had been on E (estrogen) for three months and had lumpy nipples, sore and tender. i stopped taking the E, and the feverish hurt went away yet the tissue and lumpz only softened up...
