O.K., here is the Big Idea.

First, go check out this web site. Then make of a modern-day story involving a religious revival of this ancient cult.

I hope that someone tries this out.

Yes!

And be sure to check out the link to the Metro'on at the end of the article. I've been reading about this religion for more than 25 years. Other good sources are web searches for Cybele, attis, etc. About 15-17 years ago a book was published called "Homosexualities." I forget the Author's name, but he was a psychologist who was exploring ancient manifestations of queerness in various societies. The section on worshipers of Cybele is thought-provoking and erotic. Also check our Will Roscoe's work in this area. His website is:

A-1, I've been trying to generate some interest in someone actually reviving a modernized version of the ancient cult.

See my reply to post in "Castration for Religious Reasons?" down in the Eunuch Central board.

Also, my background fantasy of Gnorrid the Warrioress in the story archive runs along these line. (Not meant to be historically accruate.)

I have been aware of this & similar mythology for a while & had thought about a future tale involving topic or something akin. If you can't acquire another volunteer, I'll give it a go. However, I suggest that we wait to see whether someone else might be interested as I'm already overloading story board!

One fictional place where this cult is mentioned is Mary Renault's book, The King Must Die, which is the second part of her two books about Theseus. In book two, Eleusis, she writes about this cult.

Here's a quote about cults by Tom Wolfe:

"A cult is a religion with no political power."

Actually The King Must Die is the first book. The second book Bull From The Sea, makes reference again to the cult in chapter 1.

A long time ago, I posted some things about Sacred Kings, who ruled for fixed periods of time. At the end of their reign they were mostly killed, cut into little pieces, and all their blood saved. The body parts, & Blood, were both used as Magickal links to fertility of the people and the land.

I was an Honored Guest at one Rite, which was slightly different. The ‘King' was married to a Virgin Queen, who as soon as he got her pregnant, was emasculated. This was done at the point of his ejaculation in her, at a public celebration of her pregnancy.

I have forgot most of the details, But perhaps someone who was around at that time here, copied the story of that part of my trip.

After all, why try to revive something dead thousands of years.

Blessed Imbolg!

I think I remember the story. If you can remember the name of the story or the name under which you wrote it, we should be able to find it in the story archive.

It was posted on message boards, not the story archive.
