Chat Room Software

I've been using the new Chat Software since it was install a few weeks ago. I've been impressed by it so far.:)

I have a few minor annoyances with it.:( I was wondering if these issues could be made aware to the software developers to fix.

1.) The program needs to run in its own window, not local to the browser. (Too often I and others click on links in programs like Yahoo, which uses the browser that is running the shat software and load the link in that page, closing the chat program.)

2.) I have noticed that I've been getting disconnected a lot. It usually happens where there is little activity, or when I don't do much chatting for long periods of time. But occasionally it will happen while I'm busy using the software. The bad thing about it is that the program appears to still be running OK, but in reality you have been logged off, and just think that nobody is chatting.

3.) Annoyed by the fact that private messages take the focus. Hate being in the middle of typing a long message and look up to see that someone sent me a private and that I most of my message has been set to the wrong person.

4.) Close button on private chat should not be there, too easy to hit accidentally. I've closed out on a few sessions when I get real busy because I'm used to Yahoo & ICQ where that button is used to send the message.

These too have been brought up before

5.) Users should automatically open the "Eunuch Archive Chat Room" when they logon.

6.) Need a way to private chat with someone from one of the rooms.

Well hopefully we can convince the software publishers to fix or improve on the software. Any other comments are welcomed.

Hallo Jungs,

I have to agree with Luvpain, there are a few very disturbing characters.

Windows popping up and loosing half the message to someone else, can be a very distracting turn off.

The other thing is I can put people on my ignor list but they seem to have vanished the next time I log in.

It would be very convinient if EA members could log in with their EA name and password with referance to their profile.

Personally:

I wish I had more Power, to kick assholes 😈

And could you please give it more colour 😄

Yes, these are relevant issues, and I have noticed them myself as well and sometimes they piss me off. The only way to fix these things, of course, is for the software designers to release a new version for purchase. Until then, there isn't a lot we can do about it.

Ok ...

So the question is:

(1) Should I be looking for other chat options?

(2) Would people accept/understand another change so soon?

If I were you, Bboy, I wouldn't worry about it. It sure beats the snot right out of the old chat software and systems. It's like going from a VW bug to a Cadillac. I like it well enough, so I'd say leave it alone.

:p

It is definitely a good piece of software, just needs to be enhanced some.

If you do look around for other software, let us know what you are considering, and we can make comments on weather we think it would work or not.

I really can't make much comment on the old software, as I really never used it.

What ever you decide we will all support you :)

I think IRC is pretty robust myself, assuming you either find a good reliable public IRC server or have a machine with a reliable internet connection and run a good IRC server on it (one that allows channel registration) just for eunuch.org.

With IRC clients, people can configure them to act how they like (e.g. how to handle PMs popping up), and a Java applet can be provided for those who don't have IRC clients.

On the note of PMs, I don't like it when someone PMs me looking to hit on me (and I'm not even gay). That happened twice to me tonight, and it's my first day on the chat.

Having been on IRC a lot with the program PIRCH and mIRC as well, I have to say it's over rated. In fact, IRC can be a dangerous place to the PC, and hard to learn for a newbie. Most of the servers out there that you connect to are junk, and you meet all sorts of interesting characters out there IF you can get it to work, that is. My advice, as an X-IRC user is to stay with browser driven chats.
