t understand Republicans, sports fans, bikers, deer-hunters, Christians, and people who drink light beer. :-\
Does any one truly understand any one else? If you get to truly understand yourself you have done better than most.
Here are some observations that may help a bit. Republicans are people who want to do good. I really believe that, even though I am not a republican. I also believe that libertarians, democrats, Communists, green party, etc etc etc are parties made up of good people who want to do good things.
The problem I think is if you ask 100 people to define "Good" you'll get 100 different definitions. Political parties form when people who feel the same way about certain issues get together to push their political agenda. The other problem is people forget to respect the person who disagrees on the definition of "Good"
Sports Fans: You will understand them when you find a sport you love
Bikers: Many are people who wish to live outside societies rules and regulations. Many simply seek the freedom that was once the birth rite of all people. I don't have a motorcycle, but I feel a certain kinship with bikers. I too reject what society has served up to me as my fate. I reject this path and choose my own. I am a rebel.
Deer-hunters: I imagine there are as many reasons to hunt as there are to do any thing else, but I imagine most of all that deer-hunters are looking for something that has been lost to us for the sake of modernity. The connection to nature. That may seem to be a contradiction, but when you think about it, we are all the descendants of hunter gatherers. Modern life gives us the illusion that we are civilized and humane, but the reality is we are only a supermarket away from the same reality that the deer-hunters are embracing.
Another thing that is missing in the modern world is very often the top of the food chain. We have eliminated the wolf, the coyote, and the mountain lion who all played an important role in the balance of life in our world. Now they are not allowed to play that role as much as they did, and the deer are over populating in many areas.
Either we must restore the balance by reintroducing the original predators or we must maintain the population of the deer through hunting. There was a dance going on - we cut in - we should dance or get off the floor, and let the coyotes, wolves and wildcats dance as they were meant to do. Personally I feel we could learn how to dance a lot better by watching them.
I respect hunters as honest people, and I respect vegetarians who are also honest people.
Christians: People of faith who want to do good. Unfortunately the definition of good hasn't been firmly established to the point where we can all agree what that is.
People who drink Light Beer: Hmmmmmm yeah I don't get it either. I also don't get decaffeinated coffee drinks but life is about compromising and coexisting. We need to start somewhere, and that is as good a place as any.
