Women's Town in China...

Post by Roxanne (imported) »

😄 BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese tourism authorities are seeking investment to build a novel concept attraction -- the world's first "women's town," where men get punished for disobedience, an official said Thursday.

The 2.3-square-km Longshuihu village in the Shuangqiao district of Chongqing municipality, also known as "women's town," was based on the local traditional concept of "women rule and men obey," a tourism official told Reuters.

"Traditional women dominate and men have to be obedient in the areas of Sichuan province and Chongqing, and now we are using it as an idea to attract tourists and boost tourism," the official, surname Li, said by telephone.

The tourism bureau planned to invest between 200 million yuan ($26 million) and 300 million yuan in infrastructure, roads and buildings, Li said.

"We welcome investors from overseas and nationwide to invest in our project," he added.

The motto of the new town would be "women never make mistakes, and men can never refuse women's requests," Chinese media have reported.

When tour groups enter the town, female tourists would play the dominant role when shopping or choosing a place to stay, and a disobedient man would be punished by "kneeling on an uneven board" or washing dishes in restaurant, media reports said.

The project, begun in the end of 2005, was expected to take three to five years to finish.

I cant help but think (yeh i know this china thing is kinda funny....but...) there are a lot of people (men included) who dont like men very much!!!!!!!!

:(

I dont like people very much!!! in general, but have never come across a differance between the way men and the way women act-they are the same if you ask me. Some lovely, some youd rather avoid, some damn right mean.

I dont know, this is such a female dominated society at the minute-if you ask me!! So many people in the media slagging off men, it seems men cant do a thing right..

Well im glad im a man :P

so pooh to you all that say men suck..good men kick ass and i wouldnt want to be anything else.

Sorry maybe that had no relevance, but i just thought id get that off my chest..

I cant rememeber now, whos exactly it is (i think the fraj) sigature-you cant spell malelovance, without male....

aww i dunno, we need a mens revolution-but im not sure there are going to many takers around here......

Im here because i like knowledge, so i suppose im like an outsider looking in...

oh i dunno, i need breakfast...

What a stupid idea and one that I would never visit.Women are by no means superior but think they are.People that usually shout about how brilliant they are usually are insecure and eventually believe their own rhetoric.

Men have brought a hell of alot to this world from art to construction and there maybe wars but they would be alot more if women ran the world.

I agree with one of the respondents that men need to stand up for themselves and stop letting women and the media belittle them.

There are many negative stereotypical things that are (INCORRECTLY) called "masculine" tendencies and behaviours. But the facts are, as I see them at least, that women do many very wrong and evil things, but they are not criminalized behaviours, but they should be.

Sounds like an interesting Chinese version of the OWK. It would be interesting to know if there really is a tradition in that part of China of female domination or if this has just been made up by the tourist board.

If there ever was an invitation extant .... oh, whatever....

Refer to a very mild variant of what I would expect in response to this post.

OTOH, far be it from me to quibble on either side. Choose your weapons, provided they are not sharp.
