Need to know the healing process and time for castration alone and with scrotum removal. Is stitch removal required later for both? How soon can a plane trip followed by rest at home take place? These have been discussed but I can't find that part of the thread.
Thanks, smoothie
There are many articles here that answer those questions. I do realize it takes a little digging though. The time involved in the healing process depends greatly on the surgeon and your own body. Philip1 has his experience with castration and scrotum removal with Dr. Kimmel in his thread,"Becoming a Eunuch". I talk about my experience with Dr. Alter in my thread,"Is Kimmel the best way to go?"
Like I have said before,"you get what you pay for". You have to go back a ways to find a lot of the other threads. Bobbie, Riverwind, Thefrag and there are many more. Try the search function.
Know after all that, here is my answer. Castration only, you can be up and around in a few says and if you have a sedentary job, you could be back to work in a week. With scrotum removal, it takes a few days longer. With both, you won't be 100% for at least 2 months. I'm a railroad engineer and I was back to work in 12 days with no problems, but I'm a quick healer.
Dr. Alter used dissolving sutchers so I didn't have to go back to have them removed. He said he didn't want to have to go between my legs any more than he had to.

The only reason I had to go back was to have the drain removed after 4 days. A drain really should be used if you have your scrotum removed as it gives the fluids some where to go. If you keep your scrotum, the fluids go in there and dissipate slowly into your body. I think the drain also speeds recovery because your body doesn't have to deal with the fluids. If you saw all the stuff that comes out, you wouldn't want that in you. I didn't even have any bruising to speak of. I was extremely pleased with my experience with Dr. Alter.
I believe Dr. Kimmel uses the dissolving sutchers also, but for some reason, some of the guys had some problems. I don't think Kimmel uses drains. If you have your scrotum removed, I really suggest you have him use one and spend a few days in the motel. It's well worth it. When Dr, Kimmel's nurse said to stay off your feet for 2 weeks, she is being way over cautious unless she doesn't have much confidence in Kimmel's skills.
I know Kimmel is easy and relatively cheap and he might do a fine job for you, but if at all possible I would go else were.
