Not quite sure where to put this, but figured the health forum would be the best...
I was wondering if it would be physically possible to get a radical piercings.
Piercing one...is it possible to get a piercing up through the lower jaw, so that a loop could be formed out the mouth and back down under.
Piercing Two...similar to above but through the rough of the mouth into the nasal cavity and out the nose, so that a loop could be formed going out the nose and into the roof of the mouth.
Just an idea that popped into the imagination and never heard discussed.

Piercing one would be pretty tough to get healed. When eating or drinking the food or liquid would ten to run into the hole and out of the mouth.
Piercing two would require poking a hole through the hard pallet (a bone) into the nasal cavity. It would probably end up infected from nasal secretions.
I think that either might require serious propalatic antibiotics during the healing process, if indeed they could actually BE eventually healed.
In other words, they might be possible, but not probable for the long term...

I am pretty certain that I have actually seen a picture of a piercing through the underside of the jaw, but I cannot recall where.
With regard to the second piercing, a big danger would be that in making it the instrument would pierce the brain cavity and, assuming that there was a brain in existence, possibly cause death.

i have a picture of the piercing going through the bottom part. some guy has two of em and they look like lil horns sticking out the bottom of his jaw. havn't seen or heard of the other one through the roof of the mouth and out the nose, though i can ask my piercing friend. he does body piercings and such.

I just want to say that if you get the jaw piercing you might want to consider the practical aspects of drinking liquids. Over time the hole may stretch and you may need to go with a progressively larger gauge of jewelry. Some piercing just do have an impact on practical day to day activities. Prince Alberts make you sprinkle when you tinkle, a guiche can make sitting for prolonged periods of time excruciating, tongue piercing make you learn to talk all over again, and septum piercing make it difficult to blow or even pick your nose.

Just getting your frenulum-lingua snipped requires relearning how to speak clearly, as all tongue-tied people get to discover.
I'd imagine that the jaw-piercing described would be quite possible, although ackward during chewing or drinking. Still, the tongue and other tissues of the mouth are good at making water-tight seals, so it probably wouldn't be as severe as one might conjecture. And it would be so fucking stylish; you'd definitely make all of the piercing magazines and websites.
I say try it. What have you got to lose?

Depending upon the anatomy, you could potentially lose a lot.
Perhaps a good place to ask this question might be in BME's QOD (
http://iam.bmezine.com/qod4.exe?) area. Chances are, the people there answering questions will have a much better idea as to the feasibility of such piercings.

#1 is possible but #2 could be achieved if you went between the upper gum and upper lip into the and out the nose. No bone would be involved and not much flesh to pierce through.

Thanks all. It was something that i thought of late one night. I found the idea of being chained to a wall (or something) by way of a permanent ring rather hot.

A septum piercing would achieve that! You could even be forced into doing some work, "nose to the grindstone" and all that.
(Incidentally, in case anyone wonders about the phrase, 'nose to the grindstone', that literally was the position which workers were in when the grindstones were powered by water. The workers lay prone on a board which was slightly above the level of the stone, with their heads beyond the end of the board immediately over the stone.) - and you think that you work hard!
LOL
