REAL Pornography

The front page of the second (local news) section of today’s San Francisco Chronicle has a headline splashed all the way across the top:

EX-ARMORY TURNS INTO PORN SITE:

Kink, a Web-based pornogrpahy distributor, buys historic S.F. building to film its bondage movies.

The article takes up over a third of the page (with three color photos) and continues on over a quarter of an inside page. Kink paid $14.5 million for an historic 1912 building that will require millions in up-date and repair before they can begin filming there. The Armory served as a military induction and training center for both World Wars and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The head of the local neighborhood association noted that, “Whatever you might think about what they’re doing, it’s perfectly legal. Do I think it’s a good fit for our family based neighborhood? No, I don’t”

James Mogul, a porn director and president of Kink Media, pointed out that, as for vulgarity, it’s all relative. The building’s original purpose was to train soldiers to kill people. “That’s obscenity,” he said. “What we plan to do is nothing compared with what this building was intended for.”

I have seen many of kink.com's video, most of the time they do their shoot in studios or at private remote locations... a few times they venture out on the street but are half descrete about it.

As an urban planner who's job it is to recommend on issues such as this, I certainly appreciate this contribution and where you're coming from. The owner of Kink is almost certainly correct. The new use sounds appropriate. I'm almost certain it's also in the eastern neighbourhoods where changes of use such as this often require no changes to zoning. Nor will anything occurring in the former armoury affect the neighbourhood. Normal people will be seen coming to and leaving the building.

Of course, the 'problem' is the exploitation of women...

...but that is always the 'problem'...

These women are making a living and hopefully these asses that are doing these things to them will not kill one of them with their underwater breath bondage or choking orgasms or exotic rope ties or some other such bullshit as that.

I cannot see how they could possibly orgasm while being tortured, but to each their own, I suppose, as long as it pays well...

Just as long as nobody gets killed or maimed...

In a way it is just like Penn and Teller... the tricks will get more and more risky until somebody is ether killed or ends up in the ICU of the closest hospital.

But I guess that it is no worse than a professional fooball game...except that the girls don't get paid as well...

With over 2000 released shoots, (I should know, I have most of them) they have things worked out. They have a site where they show behind the scenes and the set up is more like a movie set, with cameramen, photographers, directors, assistants, riggers etc then a back yard operation. But with a few million to spend on an old building and then renevate it, I bet they can afford the lawyers to cover thy arse.
