What does "Slurp Spider" mean?

In "Who's Online" some of the visitors who are not members of Eunuch Archive are listed as "Yahoo Slurp Spider."

Please excuse my lack of knowledge, but, what is a Slurp Spider?

I know what Yahoo is, but what is a Slurp Spider and how did that term get started?

You know...I was wondering the same thing myself. I noticed this new term after the software upgrade that IEunuch performed a few days ago.

Anyone have any thoughts on this one?

"Slurp spider" is a program used by search engines to capture information from the web site. When you see "Yahoo Slurp Spider" it means that Yahoo is recording whichever thread or post the Slurp Spider is shown at. There are also other spider programs that visit our site. --FLO--

I come across terms that have to do with computers and the internet and I wonder, "just what does that mean?", or "what is that?", and I wonder how that term came about why they call it that.

We have come up with so many new and strange sounding terms for things about computers and the internet, if someone from 10 years ago heard someone today talking about some computer and internet things, they might think that person was speaking a different language.

I think it would be a good idea to come up with some poison bait for these "slurp spiders." I don't like them at all. There are ways to block them.

Very simple. Every time you see "Yahoo Slurp Spider" tell Yahoo just what you think of them. Don't mince words.
