I had an e-mail from Dr. Spector today. When he castrated me last 14 May, he was unable to also remove the scrotal skin (as I had requested) due to excessive bleeding. After I healed up, I had to await the proper time to return to Philadelphia to get the job finished.

That will be 18 January. However, this will be done by a junior associate, an experienced urologic surgeon. I intend to stay at the Best Western Hotel about a block from the urologist's office.

I have alreday bought my airline tickets. I will fly into Philadelphia on Thursday 17 January and return to Los Angeles on 21 January.

I am posting this as information to others who might be interested in the new arrangements that Dr. Spector is putting into place. I'll update this thread as circumstances require.

Best of luck on the upcoming procedure, and definitely let us all know how the new arrangements work out with Dr. Spector's office and the new urologist.

By the way, the Best Western is at 501 N.22nd Street. I did make the reservations. Checking with a YAHOO map shows it is indeed one block away from 2301 Pennsylvania Avenue. However, this is January in Philadelphia,and this particular southern Californian does not own snow shoes, eskimo parka, or any other kind of cold weather gear.

So, I guess my question would be,should I contact the new doc that Dr. Spector is recommending for both the removal of the testis AND scrotum? Just curious.

I am not sure if Dr. Kimmel wants to be contacted directly. It may be that he wants Dr. Spector to screen and counsel patients before refrring them to him. But yes, Dr. Kimmel can probably do both castration and scrotal removal.

I am next!!! Only 13 more days and I will be castrated and have my scrotum removed by Dr. Kimmel. Good luck Andrew. And get Dr. Kimmel all experienced. I'm ready.

Also, just a note to those wanting SRS sometime in the future--keep your scrotum. You will need some of it for SRS. If you have the penile inversion with scrotal graft technique done (which is fairly common now), most of your depth might come from scrotal skin. I got just one inch from my penile skin, but another six inches from scrotal skin.

If you do lose your scrotum, your SRS options will be limited.
