Eunuch fund for surgery
Would it be a good thing to open or start a fund to assist more men in getting castration surgery? How would we go about it and who would run it and keep their hands out of it? Should/could we have a "Treasurer and Panel" that would oversee the fund and determine the most logical or needy candidates? I think it would be great, especially since Dr. Kimmel won't accept any insurance. (Insurance companies would not probably pay for it anyway unless the person was determined to be an SRS candidate). Thoughts? Hash

Eunuch Insurance is a great idea. Find a good name for it. Include insurance aspect for things that adversly can "happen" to eunuchs, political, social, medical etc, Add more items that it should cover. Make it very low cost so everyone wants it regardless of future needs etc. Just a good idea all around. How about "BALL INSURANCE" ?? n3rf

Re: Eunuch fund for surgery
As weird as it sounds, I wondered this too. Particularly a general fund which members may choose to pay into, which can help pay for group activities when we have gatherings.
Wristbands to raise awareness/funds
There are ways of raising money, and one way is by selling wristbands which also raise awareness. The money made could go into this fund, which could ultimately pay for events or to help individuals.
Some have already been made up on a small scale by members on these boards. (Please click link to view! Though they are a little hard to photograph)
Skoptzikov made up two kinds (that I know of): One which was green and on the front had "Eunuch" (http://www.thefraj.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk ... eunuch.jpg), and on the reverse "Neither (http://www.thefraj.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk ... female.jpg) ♂ nor ♀" (http://www.thefraj.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk ... female.jpg) (note Unicode characters used are male and female symbol, may not display correctly if a user does not have the right language packs)
There is also another design by Skoptzikov, which are in Red which have "Eunuch - Basic Human" (http://www.thefraj.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/redone.jpg)
There are a couple I had made up: One which is pink/white swirls with "Eunuch" written on the front (http://www.thefraj.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk ... eunuch.jpg), and "Third Gender Awareness" on the back (http://www.thefraj.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk ... reness.jpg)
The other was a might more gay colour, with "Eunuch" on the front (http://www.thefraj.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk ... nuch_2.jpg), and "Neither male nor female" (http://www.thefraj.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk ... female.jpg) on the back.
I think these are quite desirable and also make a person feel good they are contributing to something useful.
As for the paying for castration idea, although in theory it would be great, I'm not sure it's okay to encourage someone to take an action lightly they may end up regretting for the rest of their life. Though I agree, in principle, it is a good idea
And the centralized fund idea is definitely a good one!

Thefraj mentioned "encouraging someone to take an action lightly" and it made me think. If we offer free castrations how many would jump at the chance at their first thought this is what they need. Many of us had to wait years and during this time of waiting we knew for sure it was absolutely what we needed. How many might come back and sue because it turns out it was not right for them even if they were interviewed and it seemed appropriate.

I think Tugon hit the nail on the head. I guess it's an issue of accountability. By offering a means to something (whether giving someone the money for castration, or putting them in contact with a cutter) we - to some extent - accept responsibility for the outcome.
At the same time, it would be good to offer friendly help to those who would go through this anyway. Therein lies the paradox.
I guess that's why it's a good idea in theory, a controvercial one in practice.

Oh, what a troubled world we live in when litigation slams the door.
This is an interesting idea though, litigation could be reduced to near zero if this were organized as a non-profit organization and the proper safeguards and waiting period are required. With 1 year of counseling and chemical castration, I think that many more doctors would pursue an interest in providing this service as their patients would be pre-screened and have completed an evaulation.
Something to consider.

Maybe we could collect door-to-door.
