My Kimmel Experience

Post by ooshnu (imported) »

I have been lurking for a few months, but now feel it is time to share….

Last week, May 1st to be exact, I had a bilateral orchiectomy performed by Dr. Kimmel. There really aren’t enough kind words to describe the good doctor. I have to admit at first I was a little taken back by his age, but after talking with him for a few minutes, I realized he was pretty sharp. Asking his age was something I wanted to do, but I thought it would have been rude. I would guess he is in his late 70’s.

He gave me a detailed lecture about the functions testicles perform and wanted to make sure I knew it was forever. Then he took a brief medical history and got me to sign a consent form. He quickly changed clothes and got started. People have said that the injections of lidocaine are very painful, but I really did not think they were bad at all. Actually the shot of antibiotics hurt worse.

Once everything was numb he began cutting. After only about 45 minutes the final stitches were being put in place. He asked if I wanted to see the testicles, but I told him that I had a weak stomach and would rather not. They were left on a cart, and I caught a glimpse of them anyway. It really didn’t make me sick to my stomach. I was shocked at the size of them. I never really thought mine were that big.

After he got cleaned up and I got dressed, he went over some detailed post op instructions. I was to stay off my feet and keep them elevated. Also, he told me to keep ice applied for 48 hours. Lying in a hotel room for three days is really no fun. I believe it did pay off though. I really had no pain to speak of, and no swelling that I could tell.

Three days after surgery I had a follow-up with Dr. Kimmel. He was very pleased with the results, and told me that I was an excellent patient. Then he released me and told me to take it slow driving home. In all I was very pleased with my experience.

It is now ten days post castration and I had still had no pain or swelling. I am still getting a tiny amount of drainage. I had been chemically castrated for several months prior to surgery, and so far I feel no different. I’m wondering if anything will change in the next few weeks.

Would you be willing to share the reason(s) for undergoing initially chemical and now surgical castration?

I wish you all the best. It sounds like things are working out like you want them to.

Congrats! Welcome to the club. Hope you continue to heal and not overdue things. Did he suggest a salt bath later on? I tried it and thought it helped. Glad you shared, it will help a lot of people. Hash

Congratulations on acheiving your goal and legally!

I make note to the law above because you will never have to go through the hell I am presently. It will pass and I'll be o.k.

Sorry if that is a thread-jack, it's not my intention!

Basically I underwent chemical castration just to make sure I could deal with the effects and take it for a test drive so to speak. I had also tried it for about six months a couple of years ago. Since that time I thought about surgical castration a lot. In recent months my work circumstances finally allowed me to get it done.

He explicitly told me to disregard that part of the instructions. He said I would not need to do that.

Congradulations,

I hope this is everything you want it to be.

I went to the good doctor almost 4 years ago. We talked for some time and I left feeling his age was late 60's the reason for this was the age of his kids and mine, our grandkids etc. What ever his age he is one of the best and nicest Doctors I have ever met.

Welcome to the club.
