The terms “liberal” and “conservative” long ago became propaganda shibboleths. Our use of them is not helpful.

Consider how Associate Justice of the Supreme Court David Souter, who is a traditional conservative Republican, is called liberal. This is nonsense.

Of course, no one has found Representative Delay guilty of crimes. Two grand juries have brought indictments against him.

If what he allegedly did became a crime in 2003 and if a jury eventually determines that he subsequently committed an offense after that date, he will have been found guilty of a crime. Texas has a history of strong opposition to the use of outside corporate funding in its politics. Of course, we do not yet know the evidence that prompted a grand jury to indict Mr. Delay. Let us wait for the evidence.

Meanwhile, if anyone has proof of political bias in the prosecution of Mr. Delay, let him present it. So far, there is no such evidence.
