Two years a eunuch

It is just two years ago today that I was castrated. I was very fortunate. The procedure was carried out by a urological surgeon in a proper surgical facility in a private hospital in southern England.

I did post a description of my experience to the EA at the time. The surgery was carried out under a local anaesthetic so that I was fully conscious. The surgeon did not feel it necessary to use any antibiotic. The line of the surgical incision healed beautifully without any kind of discharge from the operation wound.

Now two years on, I can report that there have been no undesirable side-effects apart from some hot flushes. These are not a problem. It is interesting to note that I do not get hot flushes at times when they might be embarrassing. I don't get them, for example, if I am with friends at a party.

I can say that I am most definitely experiencing the "eunuch calm" since my castration. My wife tells me that I am a much nicer person since I was castrated. I am very pleased that, very largely as a result of reading the postings on the EA and some direct exchanges by emails with men who had themselves been castrated, I can still sign myself as:

Sorry I didn't post sooner Terry! :) It's wonderful to hear you're happy with the results. I know everyone's experience is different, and not everyone experiences the 'eunuch calm' in this way. It can be very subtle and I suppose people with naturally stressful lifestyles may not have the chance to 'listen' to their bodies as closely in that way.

I must admit I'm surprised at the lack of antibiotics - especially with the state of the NHS at the moment! (all the reports we hear of 'superbugs', etc).

I'm more surprised the NHS hasn't tried to talk you into taking hormones. I saw my urologist yesterday, and he (bless him) really did try to co-erce me into taking sometihng.

I explained that I wasn't happy taking testosterone - so he suggested that if I didn't like the idea of needles, then other forms were available (patches, gels, and even gum!)

So I had to politely impress the idea that I really wasn't happy having male hormones at all. He was so desparate (and kind!) he even offered to prescribe estrogen if that made me feel better, stating that having 'no hormones at all' is not healthy. But I didn't really fancy the idea of that for similar reasons (I don't want to be a girl!) 😄

Anyway, it's great to hear you're doing well! :)

Gum?!

What do you do, blow hormonal bubbles?!

Or would that make hair grow on your tongue?

Yeah I know! 😄

It's like Princess Jessica posted in my online journal the other day "Sounds like a cruel college prank to pull on somebody!".

But the doctor claimed it's very real - recently available here in the UK. Although at the time he was rather desparatre to persuade me to take hormones somehow. Hehe, maybe the gum would be a distraction so I didn't see the needle comming in at six o'clock... and >jab< ouch! Hehe 😄

I suppose the obvious question is : How long would you have to chew :) I suspect there'd be guidelines...probably a similar chemical to the oral form of testosterone...

Yes, you know what Paolo you have a good point! my next appointment is January 11th, if I don't find out more information before then I think I'll ask :) Just for curiocity sake.

If anyone can locate any information on this, I would be greatful. I've found This article from 1998, when it was first dreamt up (http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/ ... i_n8811194)

There is a mention of it in Maryland's University Medical Centre website (http://www.umm.edu/altmed/ConsSupplemen ... HEAcs.html)

DHEA is available in capsules, chewing gum, drops that are placed under the tongue, and topical creams.

[Note: DHEA = Dehydroepiandrosterone, an androgen that is converted into testosterone - and to some extent estrogen (like other steroids)]

I'll post more links as I find them!

The problem with infections, such as MRSA - the so-called superbug - is that many hospitals simply are not clean. I was in a private hospital. It is not part of the National Health Service. All the patients are paying. As a result, the hospital can make sure that the operating room is properly cleaned between operations and given a really thorough cleaning and sterilising at the end of each day. Also the surgeon had the time to top all the bleeding points with diathermy. If a straightforward castration is carried out in a clean environment there is not a need for antibiotics.

I am very pleased for you. I've been a Eunuch for 9 years now and, like you had the procedure done in a private hospital. I love the calm and the way my body has changed and am even happier since I also had a penectomy. I had hot flushes for quite a while - the first 5 years and weight gain and placidness was a slow process but really changed my body image. I feel 100% a eunuch now with my rounded out face and body and am even happier about my penectomy which I was told to get done.

The reason for this is that you [and I] are much more likely to suffer from osteporosis as we get older. So be careful not to take a fall and take calcium supplements.

Congratulations on your anniversary. I'm just behind you at 20 months now myself, following over 2 1/2 years of chemical castration first. My surgery was done with a spinal block anesthetic so I was awake but had an IV in my hand and they did administer some antibiotic in it starting just as I was wheeled into the OR. I had a bone density test done a couple months after surgery and was found to be into mild osteopina but at that point wasn't taking any hormones or calcium suppliments, just the 400 mg that was in my daily vitamin tab. My doctor emphatically wanted me to take some hormones and had no preference if it were testosterone or estrogen and at least another 1200 mg of calcium/day. I opted for T but only take a small amount -about 1/4 of what he wanted. Its a gel so I can readily control the dosage. Its not enough to fire up my libido again but the combined effects have raised my bone density back into the normal range. It is something you should stay on top of for sure. I haven't turned rounded or put on weight so maybe the little bit of T has helped there. My wife would agree that I am more mellow and understanding than before and my castration for us has been a good thing for us and our relationship. Best wishes on your special day!
