There's a detailed article in today's Washington Post (including electronic edition) to the effect that at the Audubon Zoo except for two or three animals, all of them are fine; the zoo is fortunately located on one of the highest spots in New Orleans.

According to NPR. the same is true of the French Quarter. Almost no or at least only negligible damage sustained to the heart of old New Orleans. Now one would think that if God were punishing New Orleans for her sins, He would have targeted His wrath on Bourbon Street!

Thank you for the good report. I lived within a short walk of the zoo on ground at about the same level. The zoo is beautiful. It is independent of the city.
