Castration will effect your sex life, you will have none, unless you are on HRT, but if you do get castrated and start HRT why get castrated?

I was castrated 2 months ago, and my sexual performance has been going downhill ever since. Non physically stimulated erections no longer exist, and physically stimulated ones are becoming progressively difficult. I suspect with more time I could be completely impotent.

I'm happy about this, of course, but most people would not be.

No, sorry, that's not correct.

Vasectomy or severing the ducts that carry sperm from the testicals to the outside world prevents you from pumping sperm.

Castration or removal of the testicles removes all the male hormones from your body. That means you WON'T have a sex life at all. This is why steers and geldings are much gentler than bulls and stallions.

Dave, I think you are wrong about removing all male hormones. It is my understanding that if you are castrated male hormones will still be produced, as 5% of testostrone is prduced outside the testicles.

castration removes the source of the lutenising hormone that converts pure testosterone into Dyhydrotestosterone with out the lutenising hormone the DHT levels hit zero however the adrenals produce pure androgens which act similar to DHT but they account for only about 5% of all androgens in the male system the testis account for 95% so the statement that it cuts off the testosterone completely is correct and the statement that castration cut you down to 5% is also correct.

Actually, luteinizing hormone (LH) is the main gonadotrophin produced by the pituitary, not by the testicles themselves. LH stimulates the testicles to produce testosterone. Also, it is the secretion by the hypothalamus of gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) that causes the pituitary to secrete gonadotrophins. It is the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase that converts testosterone to the much more potent dihydrotestosterone, the one that does all the damage; hence the use of androgen-blockers such as saw palmetto extract or (prescription drug) finasteride to preferentially occupy the testosterone-receptor sites on the enzyme.

The adrenal cortex, besides corticosteroids, produces androgens amounting to between 4% and 10% of testicular secretion, but they are mostly dihydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), which is much less virilizing than dihydrotestosterone.
