Their is some knowledge about how castration was done in ancient times. The galloi of the Cybele cult used ritual stone knives to emasculate themselves. We also have the picture of the Roman castration clamb. Does anybody know with which instrument had been used, when the testicles were not cut off but crushed?

You may want to review the posting on castration of bulls in Ethiopia. This seems to suggest that the ancients may have used a stone hammer to bang the cord while over a stone anvil. Experimentation may reveal that this is not painful.
