Prostate Removal

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to have one's prostate removed on an elective basis? I have had many male relatives have serious problems with their prostates including my brother and I have a great fear of developing prostate cancer. I have heard of surgeons who will remove a woman's healthy breasts if they have a history of breast cancer in their family? Would the same apply here?

Think it will be very hard to have a doctor remove your prostrate gland. That type of operation should only be done in a hospital type of inviroment. Many things can go wrong with that operation. Removal is not so common for cancer as it once was. Loss of urine control is very possible. Loss of erections is common as well.

I tried to get my urologist to do my castration with one of my reasons was prostrate problems. He just gave me pills. Castration may not stop prostrate problems but can greatly reduce them. I am not saying to get castrated but that is one possible way to reduce problems later in life.
