Right-Wing Bias of PBS
I have virtually stopped watching PBS because of its persistent establishment to right-wing bias. Last Friday evening, we endured News Hour with Jim Lehrer, Nightly Business Report, Wall Street Week with Fortune, Tucker Carlson, McLaughlin Groups, Washington Week, Wall Street Journal Editorial Report, and To the Contrary with only a half-hour break with Now.
For many years from 1966-to 1992, I read The Wall Street Journal each business day. Except for its absurd editorial and opinion sections, it is a competent and sometimes great newspaper. I have watched the News Hour for as long as it and its original versions have played. It is reliable but rather narrow in focus. Wall Street Week with Fortune is a vast improvement over it predecessor but of limited use to most viewers. McLaughlin is an interesting fellow but the format of the show ruins any value it might have. Washington Week and To the Contrary are for the most part burdened with getting across establishment points-of-view. Tucker Carson needs a filter. He is a jackass.

The NY Times reported last week that the CEO of PBS is trying to lessen its left-wing bias - not to move to the right but to achieve balance. Many PBS stations are resisting.

Yes, he is a political hack appointed by our illiterate president.
Someone posting on the NYT Forum said it well about the new ideologue chairman: "Don't criticisim what you don't understand"
Really, Bob Dylan said it best. People like Kenneth Y. Tomlinson and other so-called "conservatives", including George Bush, generally speaking, just don't have the intellectual capacity to understand PBS programs, among other things. No doubt they are sincere in their outrageous opinions, but the truth is that they simply aren't mentally equipped to take on the creative thinking required to make sound decisions.
They should stick to interpreting bible passages - it is much less of a stretch for their tiny brains. [End quote from the NYT]
Of course, they are just as incompetent in interpreting scripture as they are with everything else except milking male horses. PBS stations are not resisting hard enough.

Re: Right-Wing Bias of PBS
Softee, are you just a wee smidgeon biased? Other than you being right (so obviously) and those who disagree with you being wrong (so tragically), what difference is there in the quality of your bias? What makes your unreasoning prejudices (if you notice any) superior to other people's unreasoning prejudices (of which they have so many)? I thought tolerance and respect were liberalism's essence, or is that only tolerance and respect for other liberals? If you find yourself riven with hatred, what makes you better than those for whom you feel such hatred? If we don't want to be hated, we should be the first to feel love.
PBS's CEO hired a firm to count the liberal and conservative views expressed on PBS, and the result was decisively liberal. This will surprise no one except those liberals who think nothing could ever be liberal enough but a station guided solely by their personal opinions.

GAWD, Softee,
Don't get me started on poor Bob Dylan...
I bet your bed is up against a wall. You should turn it end for end so that you will not keep falling off the left side all of the time in your sleep...

Re: Right-Wing Bias of PBS
I watch a lot of PBS...mostly KCET, KVCR and reports from WGBH Boston and I enjoy them all. However, I don't watch Jim Lehrer or similar shows. I tend to stick to the shows like Nova, Frontline, American Experience, Conquerors, Frontline World, Wide Angle, POV, Independent Lens and Secrets of the Daed.
I consider all the above presentations to be middle-of-the-road.

Re: Right-Wing Bias of PBS
I always thought PBS was left winged. It features urban stories and women's issues a lot....something no commercial station would do. Theirr musical programs, classical por p[op, are first rate. Nova can't be topped. But Carson Tucker? Mercy Me!
