Surgery on May 2.......FINALLY!

Ok, those who remember me know I was meant to have orchiectomy back in March with a guy here in Dallas. I had the flu, though, and had to reschedule. I'm glad I did. I found someone better, I think, to do it. I'll be having surgery with Harold Reed in Bay Harbor, Florida. It's done under IV sedation through a scrotal incision. I was worried about cord remnants causing problems (the guy here in Dallas wanted to work through my abdomen) but Dr. Reed assures me that, using retractors and special instruments, he can completely remove the cords and they won't be a problem. The surgery is paid for, all I have to do is fly out there.

Heartiest congratulations will be in order just over a week from now. It's interesting to hear that removing as much cord as possible may assist in avoiding problems stemming from leaving the severed cords inside the ball sac. Elsewhere on this Board I've noted that I had no problems in that respect. Removal of all cord material, as well as the inner sacs surrounding the testicles, was the approach used.

I was castrated in September 2003 in a private hospital in England. The surgery was carried out just under a a local anesthetic infiltrated into the scrotal sac and the cords so that I would be fully aware of what was going on. The minimum invasion of my body was carried out. The two testicles were removed through a very small incision. I was not given any antibiotic cover as the surgeon was confident of his own aseptic technique and I was not shaven so as not to produce any nicking of the skin which might have given a route for infection.

The wound healed without any problems and absolutely no infection and no discharge from the incision. Fo some time after surgey I could feel the severed ends of the cords but the cords never caused any problem and I can no longer palpate them.

I wish you well for your surgery. I have never had any regret that I have been surgically castrated.

Terry (a very contented eunuch)
