Causes of Osteoporosis

I awoke this morn to one of the usually informative broadcasts from the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corp). The CBC broadcasts ABC productions in the early morn before the CBC itself begins its morning broadcasts.
Anyway, this morning's subject was bone health. The doctor from the U of NSW discussed the respective roles of vitamin D and calcitrate produced by the kidneys. Vitamin D assists the body in absorbing the calcitrate through the wall of the intestines. There was no mention of testosterone or testes. The importance of muscle and the contribution of muscle tone to bone health was also mentioned. Good muscle tone - and good balance - assists us in staying upright in the first place and not falling down and breaking our bones.
Of course and in my own case, I do ingest testosterone (Androgel) daily and also am quite active physically. At 61 years, my muscle mass is greater than at any time previously in my life. My only bone scan, performed about 3 years ago, showed a bone density level of 110 (110% of an average 21 y.o. female). My only regret is that I wasn't as intent on building muscle mass in my teens and 20s when it would have admittedly been easier to do.
