Lost Story

Post by Bagoas (imported) »

I just spent two hours typing a story and, when I clicked on SUBMIT, I got a message telling me that the web site is not responding. I tried to print the story in the hope of submitting it again later and , for some unknown reason, only about 1/3 of it was printed.

Now the story has disappeared. I've lost it and all that work. Is there some way to assure that this doesn't occur again ? This experience does not encourage me to submit further stories.

If you were writing it up in Word or Corel or something, and had it saved, this would not have happened.

Anybody who has ever used a computer and been bitten once by data loss will know to use software that saves every 5 seconds automatically.

NEVER NEVER NEVER compose the story in the submission box on the page. It's a one-shot deal. You're filling in a field in an html template there, and when it's gone, it's gone.

Yes, Paolo,

Your advice is very good. I've never been very good at cutting and pasting and have avoided doing it. However, I should master the procedure to avoid losing a story.

Oddly, enough, though I was told that the site is not responding, evidently, it did respond and the story was submitted. I was amazed to find it among the new stories this morning. So, all's well that ends well.

Thanks for your advice.

For what it's worth, the scripts that run this place are pretty damn smart. Actually, computer code is only as smart as the person(s) who wrote it to start with.

As for cutting and pasting, or copy/paste, all you have to do is highlight what you want, hold down CNTRL, hit C, let go, click in where you want, hit CNTRL V, and that's that.

If my '7' year old can do it, so can you.
