Depo Provera/Premarin/Estraderm Patch

I'm already starting to feel the effects of Depo-Provera. I've noticed my testicular pain is almost gone now, no more "blue-balls"!

I see that Sag & others have used Premarin & I was wondering if they used it with Depo-Provera as a supplement or just on it's own? How well does Premarin work? At http://www.looking-glass.greenend.org.u ... .htm#8.3.3 , I see where they reccomend "A typical pre-op dose would be 5--7.5mg daily in divided doses, reducing to 1--2.5mg daily post-op." This seems a little bit high to me. Any thoughts?

Also too, I was thinking of supplementing Depo-Provera with an Estraderm patch. Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks!!!

Big

Provera and Estrogen are two totaly different hormones.

These numbers are just a guide. I'm over a year post-orchie and still taking 8mg estradiol a day (of course I'm looking to gain the secondary female characteristics).

The Estraderm patch is just a different means of delivering estrogen (not to mention it's higher cost). It bypasses the liver on the first pass by being absorbed directly into the blood stream. All oral medications are first proccessed by the liver before entering the bloodstream, then it is proccessed again before it is removed as waste. Hence injectable and patches bypass this first proccess making it less stressful on the liver.

Bottom line is the more estrogen you take, the better your chances of developing secondary female characteristics. :boobies:

If you are looking to just lower your libido, stick with the Depo-Provera only. If you experience hot flashes, then add a small dose of estrogen to combat them.

I placed another order of Depo-Prevara today w/ Global Drug (http://www.globaldrug.tv) & I placed some Premarin on my order as It's not very expensive. I figured it would be nice to have just in case!

Thanks!

as I mentioned before, my physician has me on premarin 1.25 mg, four times a day. Today, just came back from doctor, he put me on spirnolactone, 25 mg, twice a day. That seems like a very low dose. Will that small amount lower my testosterone lev els. any comments would be apprecitated :dong:

This sounds like a reasonable starting point. Your doctor is just being cautious. I too was started on a low dose af first. It's better to start at the lower dose just in case your body has a bad reaction to the medication. I'm sure he will increase the dose in a few months and also do blood test to insure your health. One of the important blood tests, using Spironolactone, is the potasium level.

At 25mg a day, you may or may not feel any effects. Once your doctor is sure this medicine is safe for you he should increase it over time. A typical dose pre-op is usually 200-300mg a day.

Have one more question on premarin. As I mentioned earlier, I am on 2.5 mg., four times a day. Just curious. If I stop my medications, how long will it take to flush totally out of my system? :dong:

Anyone ever take Premarin just by itself? The psyc meds I'm on have all but killed my libido & ability to get an erection. I'm thinking that if I add some Premarin that ought to pretty much finish things off.

Thanks!

Instead of expensive patches you could try Progynon Depot, it is an estrogen injection. You can buy it from http://www.24hoursdrugs.com/index.aspx They have the lowest prices I know of, more so than inhouse pharmacy. I used to wear estraderm patches, 100 TTS on each buttock, ^^ They can be a pain in the butt [Bad Pun] No they don't cause pain, it is just a problem to keep them on.

Estrogen injection is the way to go if you ask me, though if you are under doctors care it would be best to listen to him/her.
