Dr. Kimmel?

Ok, just how good or bad is this guy for real? I've heard some real horror stories from Old Man Spector, who I know is no longer operating. But, is Kimmel really any better? I was supposed to have surgery in my hometown, under general anesthetic and with a reputable plastic surgeon. But, I can't get enough money together to get it done soon enough. So, being desperate, I'm looking at Kimmel now. I know it will be extruciatingly painful, but what are the chances I will end up mutilated or bleed to death or something?

Hi, dear.
Dr. Kimmel is not a cutter. He seems to be even more favored than Spector. However, he still charges $2000, and your urologist may cost less.
He has performed orchiectomies on many EA members.
Hugs,
Kelly
Class of old Dr. Spector

You can rest assured Kimmel is quite competent. He is an older gentleman, but has a steady hand. You will recieve a brief explanation of the procedure, and what you can expect afterwards, in his office before any surgery is done. (There is, of course, one document you must sign stating you understand the outcome of this procedure.) He claims to have done more than 10,000 castrations in his carreer.
Painful? When I had surgery there was a moment during the procedure I felt a sharp pain when the first cord was cut. He immediately stopped and gave me another shot of local. From then on I felt no pain. Ok yes, afterwards your going to be sore for a while, but you can expect that with either procedure (probably more so with abdominal surgery). He'll give you some prescriptions to help with pain.
I do believe Kimmel is a resident at one of the local hospitals. So, should anything go wrong (not likely it will), there is emergency care nearby.

The last time I heard (as of September, 04) Kimmel's prices were as follows.........
Castration only: $2,000
Castration and scrotal removal (both done at the same time): $3,200
Scrotal removal only (done at a later date): $1,500
Although it is cheaper to have both done at the same time, I would advise getting scrotal removal at a later date.
P.S. Don't forget to add travel and lodging expences. A nearby hotel will offer discount rates for patients of Dr Kimmel.

For me, Kimmel IS a last resort. I would much, much rather have it done here under general and recuperate at home, but it will cost me 3,700 dollars for the procedures I want done. I wanted implants placed at the same time, but I can't get that kind of money. So, what I am going to have to do is get Kimmel to operate first, then get my insurance to pay for corrective surgery later (they will cover implants if done by one of "their" urologist, but not when done by the plastic surgeon I wanted, who is not on the plan.) With my trip to Electrology 2000 looming, and working a low paying job, it seems as though this is the only option I have left.
