I am glad to hear your response. I did not know whether the episode helped or exploited transgender problems. I felt that it was sympathetic, but what do I know?

Two things:
It was interesting that the director chose to use real transgendered actors rather than people playing transgendered people, and
I think Grissom's comment at the end was wonderfully compassionate and non-judging.
All in all an excellent episode!

Hi, Christina.
The episode can be downloaded here:
http://www.darkenedsky.com/genderpeace/ ... tv-lol.avi
You will want to right-click and "save as target." It is 350 MB and took me 40 minutes to download using broadband.
It was both good and bad. Calpernia Addams and Marci Bowers were in the movie, and some of the TS women were portrayed as human, but mostly, many were portrayed as hookers or even criminal.
The CSI team did overall treat TS women as decent people and with little exception got the gender pronounds correct (mainly, just one CSI employee seemed confused).
There was mention of "back alley" procedures done on women who bypassed the SoC and Mexican hormones. This shows us that the SoC can disenfranchise some women who must go elsewhere for help.
Although TS women were portrayed as living somewhat outside of society (in contrast to Lynn Conway's Success pages), there was a sense of compassion for "those people" (us).
There was a discussion (and an x-ray, too) of the use of a wire to hold the neo-vagina in place prior to removing the packing. This is similar to Biber's procedure (but is now obsolete). The statement "We know that post-ops can't ejaculate" is wrong, though. I do not know where they got that idea, unless they were talking about ejaculate with sperm. But best was "Show them an oyster." Some oysters can change sex at will, and the thought that since humans cannot, that defect is a mutation. The oyster has it correct; humans are the ones to suffer.
Hugs,
Kelly

Thank's Kelly,
I found the show interesting with a lot of facts, but there were also some misconceptions (as you mentioned the Biber technique). The use of pronouns was very good also, and although they didn't elaborate much, they did try and educate those in the proper terms. In all I think the TS women were portrayed fairly well in this show.
The show downloaded in about 10 minutes for me using broadband, but I also needed to install a video codec in media player to view it.
Hugs

The link works for me, perhaps your browser is just set to open that type of content with real player by default?.
If you use some 3d party download managed that might help -- such as "getright" or something..

The link opened Media Player on my PC also, but it didn't ask me for any fee to view it. I'm using Media Player 10.
