Third Gender
Third Gender
There has been a great deal of <a href=http://www.eunuch.org/cgi-bin/UltraBoar ... &P=1&SID=5 2695#ID7>discussion</a> about creating, socially speaking, a third gender to accomodate Eunuchs. The growth in the Eunuch community, especially online, has pushed this idea to the point where it is beginning to have real implications for our community in terms of the way we are viewed and treated by the so-called "main stream."<p>The lack of a recognized third gender holds our community back in getting needed medical treatment. Eunuchs are today where transsexuals were at the time Christine Jorgenson (widely recognized as the first sexual reassignment surgery recipent) came on the scene. There are a very few doctors willing to perform the types of proceedures - be it castration, penectomy or nullification - needed by our community. <p>A recognized third gender is important for those in our community who are eunuch not by choice. For the rest of us, it is a critical issue that will affect our lives and happiness. We will never be respected in the social and medical communities as long as our desire for castration is labeled as mental illness. Just like transsexuals long to have their bodies corrected so they can be called Women, so should we have the right to become and to be known as Eunuchs. <p>Having a recognized third gender is the starting point for a long legal and social battle for respect and recognition. It is a journey that we have just barely begun to take.
