Alternative to Depo?

Hello everyone,
Yet again I am need of advice. I currently have residual amounts of depo-provera in my body, however, not the desired effects. I have acheived desired effects before through depo-provera so am curious if I possibly got a bad dose or what.
Here's my problem. I have been experiencing an allergic reaction to the depo-provera that includes mostly temporary hives on my body. My lip has also swelled on two occasions. I also seem to be experiencing some slight insomnia, as sleep has never been a problem for me.
I am determined to lower the testosterone levels in my body and need to know if I can find an alternative that is cheap and effective. I would purchase depo again and hope to achieve the effects this time, but that probably wouldn't be a good idea given my reactions. Is there a comprable alternative to lowering testosterone? Any one effectively using another anti-androgen?
Thanks,
depobeginner

Your allergy is more likely due to the suspension oil instead of the drug itself. I would do two things prior to giving up on depoprovera. First, I would find out if I'm allergic to the oil the progesterone is in. Then, I would see if my body tolerates the pill form. As always, consult your physician. This post is not intended as medical advice, but rather as suggestions to be discussed with your physician or endocrinologist.
Look at the box to see what the oil is and then buy the oil from your grocer. Typical instructions for an allergy test are:
1. Apply the substance to the back of your knee or inside of your elbow.
2. Wait about 6-12 hours.
3. Wash and inspect for redness or irritation. Stop the test if redness or irritation develop early.
Have you tried micronized progesterone (e.g. promethium)? It is a mimic of human progesterone in peanut oil. Have you tried the pill form of medroxyprogesterone?
If you're in the US, there is spironolactone. Typical starting dose is 100mg per diem taken in two doses. It's a diuretic (water pill) and it retains certain salts. You will need to drink, drink and drink and then urinate, urinate, urinate as well as have your electrolytes tested. Expect to pay about $50 per month using a prescription in the US.
If elsewhere or buying from overseas, androcur exists. You should do a search of the forum for the posts of bobbie and luvpain as they have used chemical castration.
Again, this information is for informative purposes only.

awenDepo-Provera is suspended in water. Women have complained of some of these reactions.

I found a more technical explaination of what depo provera is suspended in... "Medroxyprogesterone acetate is suspended in water with PEG, tween-80, and methyl and propyl paraben."
