Perhaps you are another timid poster like me. I think we're all here (in this forum and on this planet) for various reasons, but with this particular topic in common.
Myself, I have gender issues to resolve; things I need to sort out that have to do with degree of transgenderism, and extent I am willing/need to go to be a whole person.
A practical approach I am taking involves these steps; I may discover there are more aspects to look at later:
Research my own motives
Research the Research
Research my options
Research my resources
Discuss my issues
Item 1. has to do with sorting my degree of transgenderism; how much is fetish or fantasy, and how much is really integral to who I am.
Item 2. requires me to be as informed as possible on 1-4 so I can make the best possible choices I need to make later.
Item 3. has to do with the extent I need to, or am able to go in making adjustments to live in a more fulfilling way; considerations such as "Can I be happy just dressing/looking/acting differently vs. do I absolutely need to make my body match my self-image.
Item 4. is not just about counseling and doctors. I need to be practical about my financial resources too. And then, am I in a supportive environment? (Where I am right now is very anti-gay, anti-tg. Luckily my wife is quite suportive.)
Item 5. is essential for me, mainly due to keeping silent for so many years, repressing my true nature and using anti-depressants as a solution. (interestingly, since acknowledging my transgenderism and slowly, slowly coming out, I have not needed anti-depressants). Discussion is purging. It also keeps me from feeling I have a dark dirty side--how far I have come simply by talking with my wife, where at one point in our relationship, she was very put off by my sad attempts at feminization!
Well, looks like some of this reply may belong in another topic area. I just want to say Welcome, and "To thine own self be true". Hope you stick around and find the words to ask for what you need here, my friend.
P.S. Hope I didn't make it sound as tho this group is about transgenderism. I'm merely stating that is the basis for my personal interest in the topic.
