hi all,Three weeks till my date with kimmel for bilateral orchiectomy.I can't wait.Just a few things bothering me.1st,I read about how I should go back later for removal of the sack,however that will cost me another plane fare not to mention hotel fee's.I also have to be back to work a week later.oh joy!!Any ideas out there? thanx in advance..

Hi ! I think the Bi-Lateral is the ultimate.If you want SRS or not.From what I've read,after a while,the sack will shrink.Of course,everyone is different.I'm excited for you and keep us informed how your doing.We Care,Hug's ,Leona Lee

wow,thanx for the warm welcome.could really use some good advice on which way to go,I know it will be slower healing,and a little more pain but I really don't have the time or funds to make another trip over there.

And buy the way I am just a regular guy with testosterone running my life for me.I Don't like the way I am and hope for some relief after the procedure.

The only other thing that worries me is loosing major muscle mass on my upper body.I am a mechanic.thanx for the help in advance. tim

I joined in July, 2001, the week that I saw Dr. Spector (who performed the orchiectomies there before Kimmel). It was one of the best days in my life.

Thanx kelly,. I am a little nervous but looking forward to the results afterward.The more I read the more I am convinced to just have the orchi and leave the sac for another time.Although I don't want to make the trip twice.thanx for the replys also.

Hello bigtwin,

I had my castration with Dr Kimmel in February of this year. I elected to keep the sac because the doctors will need it in the future, but I think it is wise to make that a seperate operation anyway due to any complications that could arise. Once everything is healed, the sac doesn't pose much of a problem for me now.

I also had planned on a weeks recovery time. It ended up that I needed to take 8 working days off. For some a week should be fine, but 2 weeks would give you more time to get back on your feet again, especially if your job requires physical labor.

You might also keep in mind that although castration is performed by a few select doctors, having the sac removed later may not be such a problem. After your castration it would only become a piece of extra skin and serve no purpose. I believe it would be highly likely that you could find a local doctor in your area to do that for you.

The day of your surgery you may be a little groggy from the medication afterwards. If you are going alone, have the doctor's assitant Mary, write down the instructions for you so that you may follow them exactly. The hotel is adequate, but ask for a room with 2 beds. The extra pillows will come in handy. Try and have everything before hand like extra plastic bags for ice and fill a cooler with ice before surgery. Room service is available and some local shops will deliver to the hotel, but bringing some snacks will save money. You don't want to be on your feet too much. The doctor should give you enough pills for the first week. Bed rest and ice packs the first 48 hours are important.
