Re: 90% New Posts are Political
Bboy & tal,
So, is the "bomb Detroit" a political statement? Or, is this thread a political statement? AND, if you do the castration and/or penectomy is that a political statement?
Political statements are in the ear of the critic.
But hey! Look at the bright side, at least we are posting...

Gee, sorry to hear about that. I hadn't noticed, because I no longer bother with The Deep Dark Celler, or that politics forum. The flame wars over my opinion that "child abuse begins with circumcision" more or less convinced me to avoid it.
So I stick with the occasional pun, and comments on threads concerning eunuch health, and that's about it.

Re: 90% New Posts are Political
I might just point out that, if you look through recent messages in the political forum, you'll find that at least a quarter of them, and perhaps a third or more, are postings by Archive administrators. If you add the posts by another member who is a very prolific poster, you account for around half the messages in that forum. If all those folks would make an effort to post in one of the other forums, every time they make a political post, you'd have a lot to read on the other boards.
Something which might stimulate more posting, could be a modified form of something used in the old artnet chat room. There, you could click on a menu listing (Don't remember exactly what it was) and a message box appeared with a list of topics which people had suggested as discussion topics. There was never anybody in the chat room, and it was eventually discontinued. But the idea was good. Everybody's head is loaded with information and ideas, but you need something to jog them out of the fog. And you aren't always at the computer when you get an idea for a thread. Then, by the time you get to the computer, it's out of mind. A list of topics could help you to recall your idea.
And, hey, for us political junkies, election year is like Christmas season. You get reminded of what time of year it is, all the time, so you think about politics a lot.
Incidentally, I downloaded a bs artist smilie as my profile pic--some might find it amusing. Something similar might be appropriate as a signoff logo for some of those stories in the joke section. This one probably isn't in the right format for a text smilie. Anyway, Ill leave it in the profile for a week or so, and those who wish to, can see it.

Why not just relocate the Detroit survivors to LA?
Incidentally, given the number of places in North America named after places in Europe, is there anywhere named for this place in Yorkshire?

Not directly. There is, however a city that shares many characteristics with that name...
