New Main Page
Just to let you guys kow, the main page has just become a LOT less convenient for those of us who use non-Microsoft browsers, such as Mozilla, Netscape or Opera. Tabbed browsing no longer functions from that page, though it still works once you're into the message base (thankfully). If there's some way to allow tabbed browsing to function with the new main page, please consider doing so. Those of us who use oddball browsers will greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Radar:
I agree with you 100 percent. The new format discriminates against Mac users like me
. The old format offered at least one Mac friendly browser, that of apIRC. The new format is for Microsoft people only.
Fortunately, a long time ago, I saved a copy of apIRC and eIRC on my desktop so I can still get into chat. I can also use ircle to get in.
The new format does look classier but limits entry to non-PC users, especially if they are as computer dumb as I am.
Oh well, there has to be change.

Re: New Main Page
I'm really sorry guys.
Please understand that the navigation script was chosen because it was advertised to work with Microsoft, Netscape, Konqeror, and Opera. Our stats package indicated that .2% of archive users would be affected and those users rarely did more than visit the warning page. I guess the stats package is wrong and I should have done some more experimentation before posting the new page. Again, sorry.
Oh well, nothing is written in stone. I'll see what can be done chop-chop to make the navigation friendlier.
What browser are you using guys?

Re: New Main Page
I just want to throw in that there's nothing in use there that isn't being used by most of the major websites around. If you guys need to update your browsers then be all means please do so.
Talula, please don't stop moving the Archive forward on the basis of an extremely small percent of users. The stats package isn't wrong.
By all means if there is a way to resolve the issue and still move forward then do so, but don't halt progress for such a small minority of users.

Re: New Main Page
My browser appears to work ok with the new page. However, it was a big shock to log on and see the new page as the change had not been announced. I wondered if the archive had been invaded by a virus.
It also took me a few minutes to become oriented to the new format so that I could find my way around.

Re: New Main Page
Tales from the Mac side
Ive been a Mac user since the days of the original 128k version it already spoke fluent Japanese at that time, while PCs still seem to have trouble with the language.
Talula gave me access to the new front-end before it was made public. I have had absolutely no problems with access using either Microsofts Internet Explorer, version 5.2.3 or Apples own Safari, version 1.2.2.
The Apple folk out there may simply need a free upgrade to a more current version of their browser. For those PC types using exotic web browsers, the solution may be more difficult.

Re: New Main Page
After a moment of disorientation at the new format, I have found that it works well and looks good. Plus a change is always good for the brain.
Good work!

One thing that is missing that I liked was the list of recently viewed stories.
Good way to be reminded of the stories you read years ago, but forgot about
