The cats as of 27 June

Sunday Afternoon of 27 June and all is well. For some reason my old AOL 5.0 program died, and I was obliged to reload. The only disk on hand was one of those new ones for 9.0, which refused to load. A call to the AOL help desk determined my computer was not powerful enough for 9.0, so I settled for 8.0, which seems to work fine. Along the way I lost all my settings, addresses, favorite sites, etc. No big loss, I rarely go outside my Newsgroups and the Eunuch Archives anyhow.

Brother Michel Andruschak (the real brains of the Andruschak family) obtained this computer for me in 1998 or 1999 or something like that, a COMPAQ with a Pentium II and 64 MEGs of RAM. I am hoping it will last one more year, when I am out of bankruptcy and can afford a replacement. I am not sure what number the Pentium is up to, nor how much RAM would be considered "adequate" nowadays. Nor the cost.

At least the cats are in fine shape. Still a squabble or two between Czarina and the new cats, but nothing serious. Fluffy and Silver spend a lot of time with me, either as shadows as I move around the apartment, or sleeping on my bed. They sleep snuggled into each other, they groom each other, and yet both have also strongly bonded to me. Max continues to be shy, and still grooms me vigorously when I let him. All five of us have more or less settled into routines with one another.

I see the Eye Doctor this Tuesday, although I am worried about how to pay for a new set of glasses. Looking at my upcoming cash flow problems, I am going to have to put off the dental visit (for six new crowns) until early August. Then vet visits for Czarina and Max in late August. I am scheduled for two weeks of Jury Duty starting 2 August, and will have a two-week vacation starting 4 September. This will be in Seattle for my Mother’s 80th Birthday on 5 September. Once back home I will start saving up money for the Cardiac specialist, the Podiatrist, and the new shoes the podiatrist will insist I wear for my aching feet. Another good reason to just stay at home and spoil the cats rotten.
